I am obsessed. I’ve been frequenting Do Chay for years. Before it closed, I went to the Yaletown location, but I am more than willing to travel to the Kingsway front. My favorite dishes to order: Spring Rolls about as perfect as they come, Black Garlic Eggplant, and Satay Noodles. The reason I’m writing a review today is because I took my mom there for Mother’s Day, and they gave us two complimentary desserts, one of which I need to BEG them to put on the regular menu. It was a cassava cake. When I say this is the best dessert I’ve had in years as a foodie, I am not exaggerating. It was sensational and I’m still thinking about it at 11:32pm right now. Do Chay: PLEASE keep this on the menu. I know a hit when I taste one. Thank you so much for giving us vegetarians/vegans some of the best food and service in the city! Keep it up!
Had the best lunch as first time diners at Do Chay thanks to my Plant Curious membership for the recommendation! All tables received complimentary crackers, which were so addictive and similar to vegan pork rinds. I think the server said they were sweet potato. They even kindly provided us with a second small plate later on in our meal. The Vegan Prawn Curry $19 had a nice depth of flavour and wasn't overly spicy. It had lots of ingredients and the vegan prawns were a worthy seafood substitute! The house sides offered a cool contrast wood ear mushrooms, pickled radish, cucumbers.nnThe Lemongrass Vermicelli $19 was also delicious. I was impressed with the amount of tofu included. As a whole, it was a fragrant dish with a slight kick. The green beans added a nice crunch. Both dishes were filling and we took leftovers home. However, we also made sure to order the Cassava Cake for dessert. It's served warm with a soft, glutinous texture similar to mochi. The earthy and subtle nutty cassava flavour was balanced well by the sweetness of the coconut and light caramel sauce.nnService was wonderful and water top ups happened often. When it got busier between 12:30 pm to 1 pm towards the end of our meal, it did become harder to locate servers to ask for the bill and to put in a dessert order our dessert order may have been initially missed, as we'd asked a server multiple things at once, including for takeout containers - our fault!. That being said, the service was friendly. Would recommend and will definitely be back!
I'm a vegetarian and it's my first time here.nnMy friend strongly recommended me to eat there. It was really good.nnI like this Vietnamese cuisine very much.Very delicious, I will come back again.
I ordered the prawn curry and coconut rice cakes. Both dishes were delicious! The prawn curry comes with rice and some interesting pickled sides. The prices seem fair for the portion sizes. The ambience is cozy and the staff is very friendly. There's ample street parking in the area. Overall a great find!
This is a vegetarian restaurant! They got interesting ingredients, mimicking meat/seafood. I loved the garlic eggplant dish amd the dry noodles. Servers were really friendly and funny. At busy times, they have 90 minute limit. Overall a pleasant experience as a meat eater.nnFake shrimp, fake tripe made of konjak were pretty good!!nWould visit again
