I’m from California and decided to drop by Cycle Technique to check out the bikes they have for sale. I’m new to actively participating in the sport of road cycling. I’ve known about the sport for a long time, but never got interested in riding myself until recently. So I stopped by Cycle Technique to see what they have and to potentially learn a little more about road bikes and what bike would work for me. Being from California, there are a lot of bike shops around me. I’ve come to learn and have experienced the wide range of cycling attitudes. They range from the eliteist cyclists who feel they are above everyone who doesn’t ride $7000 bikes, they look the part, and call people “Fred” or “Doris” who don’t. (Google Cyclist term Fred or Doris) Then there is the hipster Fixie/Messenger style that enjoys the freedom to personalize everything to their own taste and style. For me, they are on the opposite side of the scale. They can be perceived as rebels as they don’t necessarily conform to the traditional road bike style or attitude. Depending on where your from, I’m sure you’ve seen and experienced anywhere in between the two. I’ve been to bike shops in California who gauge what you’re in the shop for. If your not going to buy a bike or know what you’re looking for, they would rather not waste their time with you and continue to work on the bike they have in the back. It’s not the best experience for a potential road cyclist. Going into Cycle Technique I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was only there to look. Kevin Chin was the person who greeted me. He did a great job. He asked the right questions to get information out of me and to understand what bike would work for me. What I thought was going to be a short visit turned out to be a 2hr conversation. Kevin really enjoys what he does and didn’t mind that I could walk away taking the knowledge that I’ve learned from him and buy a bike some where else. He said it wasn’t about the store gaining a client it was about the world gaining a cyclists. I can respect that! So with all the questions and dialog back and forth, Kevin helped me understand what I should be looking for in a road bike. There is so much information out there I didn’t know what I needed, but after speaking with Kevin I do now! He was very helpful! I ended up leaving Cycle Technique after putting a down payment on a new Cervelo C3!! I eventually came back to Montreal to pay for the rest of the bike and to pick it up. Attached are pictures of my Cervelo C3 in the wild. I highly recommend Cycle Technique. If you ever have a chance to speak with Kevin Chin, he is great and will definitely help you out!

This place is just flat out fantastic. I just did the professional fitting and before I ordered a bike and let me tell you that it was the coolest experience. The technician that does the fittings was very friendly and incredibly good at his job. Anyone who is into cycling HAS to get fit here, whether you buy a bike or not. You get all the info emailed to you so that you'll always have it to apply. One thing he said is that "(they) don't sell bikes, (they) sell the experience of the shop". He was very passionate about helping customers have great cycling experiences overall, not just in the store. Well, I am sold because it was a brilliant experience, I'm already a better rider because of it, and I've found my shop away from home (I'm in Montreal for spring and summer for work but live in California). Not to mention the shop's stock is excellent. 5 stars.

Imagine the horror. My first Ironman triathlon (Mont-Tremblant), years of training, months of preparation, twelve hours from home, and three hours before transition closes my internally routed front derailleur cable seized and snapped. Oh shirt!! I hustled it to Cycle Technique’s mechanic tent and after a brief conversation I left for a late lunch assured that it’s not a problem and that I can pick up my bike in two hours. Well, two hours later when I returned the conversation got serious; the cable refuses to budge and I’m stuck in the small chainring unless I opt to have them remove the front derailleur so that I can manually shift it up. Well, these masters refused to give up. They spoke to the race officials and bought themselves a night to work on my rig. I left the tent assured that my bike would be in transition the next morning ready to rock and roll; it was a long night. Race day and transition opened with me at the head of the line. A short walk and there was my bike, racked up and in the big ring. They did it! I don’t know how late they worked, but they managed to route my cable externally with the odds and ends they had available to them. On the rack it seemed to shift okay, but I have never gotten my bike back from a shop and not have to tune it again myself. Well not only did the work hold for the entire race, but it shifted as well as I have ever gotten it to operate! It would be hard for me to overstate just how impressed I was with the mechanics from Cycle Technique; they were friendly, professional, reassuring, and are clearly masters at their craft. If you’re serious about cycling then this is the team you need, for those more relaxed in your riding then this is definitely the team you want. Two days after the race my family and I visited Montreal with a trip to the shop thrown in to express my gratitude one last time. All the mechanics were busy and I didn’t want to interrupt their work, but I did take a tour of their facilities: banks of Zwift stations complete with proper aero frames and Tacx Neo Smart trainers, a dual lane endless pool with a complete video setup, and Zwift running stations(!). Though your training season might be short in Montreal, at least you can find a slice of tri heaven in Cycle Technique’s basement. This review has gone on long enough. If you ride a bike, or want to ride a bike, in the Montreal region then do yourself a favor and swing by the Ironman crew at Cycle Technique.
