Craters of the Moon / Arco KOA Journey

Story

This award-winning resort sits at the edge of the Lost River Range and Mount Borah (Idaho's tallest mountain). The campground is only 19 miles from Craters of the Moon National Monument & Preserve, where you can explore vast lava flows, cinder cones and lava tube caves created by ancient volcanoes. Discover mountain lakes and hot springs or watch for deer, antelope, elk and moose. Ride your ATV up a volcanic dome or on the many trails in the valley-some city roads even allow you to ride to the trails. Then quietly relax at your spacious site shaded by mature trees, enjoy the heated pool or frolic with your dog in the pet playground. Stay in an easy pull thru site with cable TV or a cozy Camping Cabin-or pitch a tent. This KOA has free Wi-Fi and a great gift shop. Nightly ice cream socials are followed by movies on the big screen (Memorial Day to Labor Day).

Nice little park. Most of the park has a lot of trees. Our site was level with gravel and grass between the sites. We had a picnic table and fire ring. The pool was closed as it was at the end of the season. Small selection of cable channels, we could not get the major stations; ABC, CBS, NBC, on cable or over air. WiFi worked good most of the time till evening and then it was very, very slow. The owners are really wonderful. They serve fresh waffles every morning between 9 am – 10 am and they are some of the best waffles I have ever had. The showers need some updating, water pressure was good and lots of hot water. There’s not a whole lot to do in Arco other than drive to Craters of the Moon. If we ever need to stop in Arco, ID we would definitely stay again.

My husband and I had reservations at the only other RV park in Arco. The proprietor there.was so rude at check in, we left and hoping for the best, drove to the KOA. The owner was extremely sympathetic to our situation and assigned us a premium sight! As if that wasn't enough, when our pop up trailer wouldn't lift, she provided the name and number of a local mechanic who came.out the same night and attempted to assist. Unfortunately to no avail. We would have had to sleep in our car with no bedding (The low temps were 45f) Once again the owner came to the rescue and offered us the trailer they rent with full linens and the works! What a blessing. We were very pleased with our stay and the restroom/showers were sparkling clean. We plan to return to Craters of the moon and will stay at this campground again! THANK YOU!!!!

By far best campground experience in my 31 years of life. Free waffles and coffee for breakfast, disc golf 😁😁😁, clean pool, hot showers and the store has hot food and cold beer. The staff are amazing and friendly. Camp here.

these reviews are stuffed. No way this place has such high ratings. It's just another low end middle of the road or worse KOA. The pool is tiny but at least it has a pool. The waffles were nice. other than that, it's just a dusty Southern ID place to park and plug in. If you are going there, stock up beforehand. There's nothing in the town.

Small friendly campground, sensibly laid out with everything you need. Free waffles and coffee in the morning is a nice treat. Bathhouse is clean, cheery, and comfortable with the usual kitchy decor, though shower stall floors need refinishing. Dishwashing station is nice, with a huge sink, long necked faucet, and really hot water & good pressure. But oddly, there is no place to set your clean dishes. There are several cabins available which look well made and comfortable. There are also two Blackfoot-style tipi's (teepees) available, rudimentarily furnished with full size beds and fouton-style sofas and chairs. Didn't try the on-site chicken & pizza fast food, but it looked inviting and reasonably priced.
