Summary: Along the river, there are a number of nice spots to get your camping chairs set up and play in the water. The water is shallow and safe to bring kids as well. I see tons of families and friends hanging out under the sun and the shade. The river right by the Lion’s Park has definitely been my favorite water/chilling spot over the summer. Parking: You can find free parking at the Lion’s Park parking lot. If it has no space, you can try parking in front of 2342 Elgin Avenue; there is a public parking space. Bathroom: There is a public bathroom in the Lion’s park. It’s usually walkable distance from where we set up our chairs.
Love this park! Lots of trails to walk along, not too many people or animals, and it’s so close to the city centre of Coquitlam but feels like you’re miles away in a relaxing setting breathing fresh air. Follow the sound of the stream of rushing water from the Coquitlam River as you let your mind forget all the problems in your life, at least for a short while. There are a few maps throughout, but google maps is pretty accurate on where the trails are. There are small lots to park at and also on street parking throughout the neighbourhood. You can find benches throughout the park and bear-proof garbage cans too. There are bear warnings throughout the park, so be aware.
Hiking experience in this park may be different from other parks. -Coquitlam river Park is dog friendly if your dog is on-leash. -The awesome Poco Trail is along the Coquitlam River which runs through the park with plenty of water. -There is a stream for salmon spawning and rearing. So, it’s our responsibility to protect this resource.
Amazing Place to take the dog for a walk to beat the heat, just wish it was off leash. Some people do it anyways but you can tell it bothers others. No trash cans throughout the park, only one at the very entrance.
Great river side trail with a lot of greenery to take in. Would be 5 stars if there was more parking but there is street parking and a few small lots
I walk these trails regularly. The trails aren't too overcrowded and the tree cover is good for all seasons; keeps the rain off in inclement and shades from the sunshine on those hot days. There are a number of swimming holes along the river as well for those sweltering summer days. In the last year and a half these areas have been overrun with people due to travel restrictions. Hoping this summer is a little calmer.
Very good River park. It.s raining.. Salmon is going up a lot.
This is a beautiful huge park with many winding trails to go hiking, this is a good place to bring dogs for a walk and children although keep an eye on them it is a large Park, Also has the river running through it and a small lake. Feels more like walking through the forest than being in park. This is easily one of the nicest parks in the Lower Mainland.
One of Coquitlam’s finest park asset for trail walking, running, or river tubing! On a hot summer day, this is the place to go for some shade and cool by the water. There are no washroom facilities around but there is a portable toilet located in a parking area near Coquitlam River Park by Shaughnessy St.
There are some salmon swimming upstream during October. Nice trails on the river bank.
