They have remodelled recently and it’s excellent! We loved the decor and the beds are super comfortable. Full windows for a great view.nFirst time staying here. My wife use to stay here for work over the years and kept on telling me I have to get to Kenora because of its abundance of water and islands. She was also super impressed with the remodelling.
Hotel is quite expensive, for what one receives. The view if you pay extra for lakefront is very nice. It was quite unfortunate the lobby coffee machine... for all 3 days we were there. Parking fills up quickly on busy weekends. Nice there's a few electric car charging stations. Wheelchair spot if it is even still one has a barely visible paint marking. Rooms with 2 queen beds are crowded. Music played throughout hotel is great. Super disturbing the toilet doesn't have a lid. Never mind the unsanitary flushing situation of an open-toilet- the bathrooms are small and items could easily fall into it. Shower is great. Bathroom doesn't have a fan, which means more fogginess and odours, and less privacy when in use. Nice mini-fridge and desk-top plugs. A/C and heat work well, but make a loud click before turning on and off. When the restaurants and possibly the pool are opened, it will be better.
Really nice experience at Clarion for a short one night stay. The lakeview rooms on the higher floors have a beautiful view. The hotel is renovated with modern , sophisticated rooms. The staff at check-in is very professional and polite and accommodates any specific room-related requests on availability. One feedback - it would be great if the hotel had some more variety in the amenities and room toiletries on offer - it is a Clarion after all but no other major complaints. Overall a great experience, will definitely be back again
Beautiful view, comfortable and modern room, very helpful and friendly staff.nComputers in the lobby saved me a couple of times because I had to do some work.nCoffee was great!nnWe will be back again!
Historical context: Back in 2020, the Clarion had a fire that caused smoke and water sprinkler damage. It took 4 years for the hotel to get remodeled but it reopened in 2024. However, the restaurant on the top floor was not yet open.nnI stayed at the Clarion Lakeside Inn for 2 nights in August 2024. Overall it was a pleasant stay at a modern and stylish hotel and I would rate it at 4 stars. This was for business and I did not personally pay for the hotel so some people might consider it pricey. While it might not be up to the standards of luxury hotels in major cities, the Clarion is quite luxurious for Kenora, ON. In the past I have stayed at Reddens Camp & Cabins which I rate at 1 star and an Air Bnb which I rate at 3 stars and I far prefer staying at the Clarion.nnAlthough the exterior of the hotel may look dated, the interior of the building and the rooms are beautiful and modern. Rooms have a fridge and a microwave but they are hidden behind one of the wardrobe doors.nnThe showers are spacious enough room for 2 and there is both a rain shower head that comes from the top and a more traditional shower head. You can choose to use one or both at the same time. The temperature knob is not intuitive though. There is a separate little knob that can be turned for hot or cold water but it is not labeled.nnMy biggest 3 criticisms all have to do with the bathroom:nn#1. None of the bathrooms have a toilet lid 2 of my colleagues also discovered this. This is a problem for sanitary reasons because when you flush, fecal bacteria will be in the air.nn#2. Very little counter space my colleagues agreed this was a problem. They could have fit a wider sink counter but chose not to.nn#3. There is only about 2 feet from the toilet to the wall this was also the case in my colleagues' rooms. That means when you are sitting on the toilet, your face is right near the wall, buried in the towel rack. I included a photo of the spatial dimensions near the toilet.nnBecause of the tower shape of the building, the rooms are a bit oddly shaped i.e. not rectangular. This means the TV is not centered between the two beds and it may be harder to watch TV from one bed though one of my colleagues said it was fine. Also, while there should be enough space for 2 people, some might find it a bit tight, especially for what you may be paying.nnThere is a master switch that controls the bed lights. Initially I thought my bed lights were broken because they weren't working - it is because the master switch was off. Both of the lights near the desk are not very bright - they are more for setting the mood rather than providing visibility for doing work.nnMy hotel room also had really comfy chairs. The sides were slanted, allowing for a really snug fit. Each room has slightly different artistic elements. My room had some cute deer statues but my colleagues' rooms had different artwork.nnSome people talked about parking difficulties but I didn't experience any. Parking seemed to be free. There were many cars in the parking lot but we never had trouble finding a space.nnThe hotel is located along the bay so there is the potential for nice views, especially if you get a bayside room. Since I was here for an event and not for vacation, I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I never looked outside my window so I don't even know if I had a nice view outside! Also, once the restaurant is renovated, there should be some magnificent views from there.nnWhen I visited, the restaurant was not yet open so there was no food on site. However, the hotel is near downtown Kenora and there is a lot that can be easily walked to. There is a Safeway convenience store that is 5 minutes away and you can walk to various restaurants in 10-15 minutes we did that on two separate occasions.nnThe hotel also has a Ketty Bot, but it's more of a novelty. The ground floor isn't that big and it is not hard to find things, so you don't really need a robot escorting you to rooms. They only put it out for banquets and special events but it was fun to interact with.
