Back in time during the 60’s..we fished here 4 times when Clarence & Dorothy owned the place. Whatever happened to them. Great memories ! We had two 20 HP motors on the back of the boat. I knew the lake like the back of my hand. Clarence tried talking me into being one of his guides. I remember crossing the devils straight during a storm with 4 to 5 foot waves. Unreal experience…
Best Canadian fishing experience I've had. Great service, friendly and helpful staff, knowledgeable fishing guides, and outstanding food in the lodge. The quality of facilities vary from cabin to cabin, but overall its great. The fishing in this area is amazing. I highly recommend Witch Bay for family trips or a fishing excursion with buddies.
For our first fishing trip we couldn’t have picked a better place. This place was like an all inclusive in the woods. The guides ,the fish cleaning, the great meals and the Liars Nest all for one price. Gail and Steve make everyone feel at home and the fact that most of the people we met have been coming for over 10 years.
Gail, Steve, and their "family " of employees made us feel at home right away. Truly a special location for fishing, relaxing, and enjoying the Canadian outdoors and wildlife. Camp meals at the lodge help to encourage new friendships and learn more about decades of traditions and stories of the Witch Bay Camp. Hot meals, comfortable beds, helpful staff, the remote peaceful setting, and friendly commaraderie amongst fellow fishers make for a wonderful Ontario vacation.
....IDYLLIC LOCATION..... SO PEACEFUL I'd booked in advance following recommendations given to me in Thunder Bay and I wasn't disappointed. Beautifully located within a short distance of the Town Centre & all their amenities..... The Cabin had the comfort and resources that you could wish for including a nice Verandah - just missing the rocking chair !!!!! They range in size and age BUT they, and the Camp in general, were spotlessly clean. If, like me, you're lucky enough to have a view, there was nothing better than a Beer OR Whisky to watch a beautiful sunset at the end of a perfect, peaceful day..... ....WARNING.... The mosquitos in the evening can be voracious - luckily they don't seem to bother me. I'm pretty sure I was the only one NOT there on a Fishing holiday but was never made to feel "the odd one out"....... The Owners, Staff, etc were friendly & couldn't be more helpful sometimes a little too much.... Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner were all available in the Lodge. Although I didn't indulge often during my five day stay you just couldn't beat the "home cooking" I did have. ..A SUPERB FAMILY RUN.. ESTABLISHMENT ...CHECK IT OUT...
Still coming here after 49 years, probably says it all. But, allow me to share more. I was 5 when my dad first took me from our home located in Chicago, a whole 14 hour drive to Witch Bay Camp. Back then, he spoiled me with this once in a lifetime fishing experience. Then, there were 16 foot Lund boats with 20 horse power Mercury motors. The cabins had wood stoves and outdoor showers with cold running water. The boats returning to camp and the large diesel generator were the only sounds reminding visitors of civilization. There were no televisions, and the 6 mile gravel logging road was so treacherous that it took 45 minutes to an hour once vacationers left the Kings highway. I witnessed that road destroy many oil pans over the years. Today though, the road is so smooth and only takes 15 to 20 minutes to drive. In addition, many modern comforts have been incorporated into this escape from life's fast pace. New cabins now adorn visitors with indoor kitchens and baths, and forced air heating and cooling and hot showers provide extra comfort required by today's travelers. There is television and wifi too, and all you can eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The boats are now modern Lund sportsman style, console steer with 60 horsepower Mercs and trolling motors. A real improvement over yesteryear. There remain though, the many great memories of Witch Bay Camp that continue to make this the perfect escape for all fishermen, young and old.
Being going there for nearly 30 years..Gail and Steve go out of their way to make it the most memorable and enjoyable trip and experience while thereRooms: 5/5
A beautiful summer get away full of extremely kind people, peaceful fishing and exploring, and very comfortable cabins. The water is very gorgeous, though it did rain at least a little bit every day I of the week when I was there. I didn't mind one bit, but I know some people do.
Beautiful experience. The owners are THE BEST. The food was excellent and the beer was cold. All of the staff members from the servers, the ladies that brought coffee to your cabin each morning to the staff that helped with the boat going out and coming in off the water were just fantastic!
Great fishing experience. Very guest oriented service. Gail is superb!! Very attentive and accommodating to requests for help. She and her staff come through to meet most any reasonable request. It would be a huge help to have a map of the lake to assist with locating hot spots for fish, etc. We'll likely be back again.
