This is an incredibly nice hotel. It's even a step up from most Marriotts. The rooms have immaculate views and are well attended and serviced. The staff was really helpful and the restaurant downstairs has terrific food.nThe only caveat I would give you if you're a Marriott ponvoy member is that there is no traditional setup free breakfast. If you get the right class of room, they will provide you with the voucher which you can use in the restaurant. When I bought my three nights I had no idea that I wasn't getting the breakfast voucher for the price... So just double check so your expectations are set.nThe environment is incredibly modern and clean, and there's covered secure parking below.
I stayed at Civic Hotel Surrey during the World Cup on a points redemption, which was excellent value given paid rates were over C$1,000 per night.nnThe hotel itself is modern, clean and comfortable. The location is very convenient for public transport, right across from Surrey Central SkyTrain station. It takes around 35 minutes to get into Vancouver, and the SkyTrain was useful for getting close to the World Cup venues. That said, late at night after a match it could be packed, and standing all the way back to Surrey with tired crowds was not ideal.nnMy room was comfortable and the property was well maintained. I also used the pool and hot tub, both of which were enjoyable.nThe main issue was the lack of late-night food options during a major event. Some World Cup matches started at 9pm, meaning guests were getting back to the hotel around midnight or later. At that point there was no room service, no minibar and no simple grab-and-go food option. For a hotel charging premium event rates, and with Marriott as a World Cup supporting partner, this felt like a missed opportunity.nnThe hotel had a fun World Cup photo backdrop in the lobby, which was well done, but the practical guest experience mattered more. A small late-night menu, grab-and-go station, or even a list of nearby late-night food options would have made a big difference.nnOverall, this is a good hotel and I would consider staying again if the price was right, especially on points. But during a major event, the hotel needed to think more carefully about what guests actually needed after late-night matches.
Stayed here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and the entire stay was fantastic.nnEvery staff member went above and beyond to make sure our stay was exceptional. Everyone was super kind and welcoming.nnThe room had an incredible view and a super soft bed. No issues with noise from other rooms or the hallway.nnThe parking is nice and secure in an underground lot. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Very comfortable bed and nice sized room. I was on the 7th floor with a king bed facing the city hall square. I did not hear the trains at all.nI loved the led lighting they had in there and the nice big open view window. The walk in shower was spacious, nice unlimited shampoo, conditioner and body wash from a local artisan company. A complimentary big bottle of filtered water was available in my room everyday along with a nice little coffee & expresso maker. All the staff was amazing, and Mohammed is the most friendliest of gentlemen's. There was plenty of amenities to enjoy, both in the room and out.nnDespite the fact that there are street residents all around, its not the hotels fault. There are plenty of amazing places to eat right beside it, the train station is there, its two blocks from a mall and Walmart, and the public library is there as well.nnI stayed here for 4 nights and absolutely felt welcomed each time I walked in.nnThe photos are from the 7th floor view.
A very fine place with extra attention to detail and excellent professional service. Attended a dinner here and the food was delicious and high quality, above average compared to other hotel buffets. A highlight was their gnocchi which was extremely fresh with perfect pillowy texture and their house made crème brûlée cups were wonderfully tasty as well. Nearly all their dishes tasted amazing. Apart from the crème brûlée and fruits, the cakes and bars were the standard average premade ones you find at many other buffets in the region, but the house-made desserts taste much better. Overall, the food here is far superior when compared to the Holiday Inn but not Rosewood or Fairmont level.
