In 1994 to 99, the Theatre was full of colour in more than 1 sense. It would have received a 5 star review then. The theatrical side of things has always been excellent On my return visit this year, I was dismayed at it's exterior; unfortunately Covid19 took a toll on it. Glad its survived but needs your support. Theatre was full but why was the Playbill Dining Room so empty in comparison? They made such a good couple for one's pleasure before. Maybe because the incredibly awesome buffet has now been extinguished!! I regretted paying $50 for a couple of self serve salads and 2 desserts. Both Ho hum/made by Mum types at best AND 1 chosen & served main courseChef made & good - Overall, seriously disappointing. Go back to the tried and true method of the past - Awesome Buffet to compliment quality Theatre!! The place lacked it's old energy, joy and life Downstairs the highlight of the day had to be the Gallery. Unique and fun to shop in! The little village also reflected the 'HIT' of Covid19 and seemed more like a Ghost town Vs an amazing Artsy Vibe of it's past life. A true shame, however it's all still there awaiting its resurrection. There is always hope and prayer for it's future. Keep the Arts alive in Chemanius PLEASE
Dinner was so so. Need to open fully for buffet style meal. Rib eye steak meal was excellent. Pork tenderloin was excellent. The salmon glazed with barley risotto I give a thumbs down. It was not glazed, more like drenched in sauce. The salmon was way over cooked and very dry. The barley risotto was great for flavor but I think it really should be real risotto. The desserts were seriously lacking. If your going to have amazing desserts you need more then 3 as choices and way fancier the cheese cake, strawberry shortcake mouse and ice cream. Other wise it was great service.
The lunch was amazing!! Enjoyed a variety of salads and chose a delicious main course, then to top it off... dessert!! They even sang happy birthday with a live pianist. Afterwards we were treated to a beautiful musical "Classic Country Roads". Fantastic voices and incredible musicians. Thoroughly enjoyed!!
We just saw Zachary Stevenson in “Dead Ringer“ which was excellent! Great voice, great band, wonderful performance! I highly recommend this theatre.
Every time I visit the theatre I am reminded how amazing as a local to have a live performance venue like this in my home town. After watching a show it is easy to understand why so many travellers and visitors flock to Chemainus just to see the plays. The well built out stages, intimacy of the auditorium, lighting, seating, sound system all add to the performance. The shows are carefully selection, well produced and always talented performers cast for the showings. One thing I would recommend if coming is to make sure you take the opportunity to have the pre-show meal in the theatres Playbill Dining Room. Most times this is what we do and the buffet selection is always well selected with a variety of tasty dishes and of course a great dessert selection. It should be noted they do have vegetarian options as well. If you get a chance in the future, check out the Chemainus Theatre Festival.
First time here..totally awesome place..we had a wonderful lunch, great staff and excellent food and theatre too.
My husband and I were sadly dissapointed with your version of "A Tiny Christmas Carol". It was very basic costumes, changing them on stage. It seemed so disjointed. Barb & Wayne.
We saw Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The theatre grounds and the building are beautiful and loved. The theatre seating and stage are perfect. The performance was well done and imaginative. The set design and costume were well done.
Dinner was really good. Great selection of desserts as well. The show that we saw, "The Marvelous Wonderettes" was so very entertaining. A great evening. Mind you, an evening there is always a great time.
The show was fantastic . Highly recommend taking one such incredible talent . I would skip the meal it was lacking .
