Checkerboard Restaurant

First visit: very slow service, extremely greasy food with poor texture. Hardly palatable; I left hungry. Second visit: fast service. food at least a B+. so make of that what you will. Edit: the third visit was my last. I paid and left before getting the food. Service can't get much worse than this.

Love their breakfast - I always get the "big breakfast" - a few slices of bacon, a couple sausage links and a brazed slice of ham, 3 over-easy eggs, home fries (THE BEST!!!) and toast. Really can't say enough about the home fries! I know there's paprika in them, but I'd love to get their recipe...SO AWESOME! :) Also love their banquet burger and fries. Hot beef and turkey sandwiches are great as well. This is now my go-to breakfast place.

I’ve been checking off the local diners one by one and today was this one. Good home style meal, friendly/helpful server Manny, and quick service. Fair sized servings at a fair price.

Have tried this place 4 times now hoping for some good food and service. Runny eggs, bacon dropped into deep fryer...comes out like jerky, toast waved over top of the toaster and finally on last visit mouldy toast which server saw and was embarrassed. She told owner/cook and he waved and said "sorry". No offer of discount or anything. So I have to give up on the place.

Amazing soup and service. Sadly my bacon was crisp and old. I shall ask for soft next time and we shall see the star rating. X)
