The cheese tarts here is so creamy and rich, I absolutely love it! Highly recommend eating the cheese tarts ASAP while it’s still molten! The Yuzu Honey cake, Tiramisu & Basque cheesecake is also a MUST TRY!
Taste: the small tart had good flavour. The inside had close to yogurt consistency which i found shouldnt be the case. The first one i had was very runny and collapsed after the first bite, it felt undercooked. The second one seemed like the right consistency as the shape remained after the first bite. It was still runny but not crazy runny as the first one i dont mind this because japanese cheese tarts tend to have a midpoint for creaminess. The crust has a fine grain texture to it. I did not want to try the basque cheese cake as its way pricier than the basque at 16th ave. They also dont have as many flavour selections for their items Packaging: box design is good but feels flimsy and they put their orders in plastic bags. I commented on this because other stores have a premium luxury experience to their products in vancouver and calgary but for around the same price, Castella isnt doing the same thing. Im ecstatic that many more japanese shops are opening here in yyc. Please note that each shop does their own version of things. A cheese tart/ soufflé cheesecake here is different from the original cheese tart/ soufflé cheesecake from the ones originating from Japan. Note: 3 stars for undercooked tart being in my order.
Not my favourite type of food but well made nonetheless. I generally don’t love cheesy/creamy foods but I think this spot makes great cheesecakes if you like these. They’re nice, solid cheesecakes with a melty, soft and warm inside. Cooked well each time, with the right amount of flavour in each sizeable cake. Somewhat pricey in my opinion but worth trying out if you’re in Chinook Centre!
I’d say Castella cheesecake is way better than its Japanese competitor in Hwy16. Their tart crust is packed with more ratio to filings and very flavourful. The filling’s creamy texture makes it more delicious after each bite! I like the convenient location in the middle of busy Chinook mall. Definitely trying more of their offerings!
This is as close as it gets to cheese tarts in Japan, so go try these right now! They are so decadent, I want to keep those trays to myself! Everything is worth a try - the box of tiramisu... yumm
Despite the packaging saying Vancouver this was definitely from Chinook in Calgary. The Cheesecake souffle was delicious and fluffy, would've paired perfectly with tea because after a few bites it can start to make your mouth dry. The small cheesecakes were amazing, the filling was very liquid and so rich in flavour.
I was really excited to finally try these famous cheese tarts myself. I heard this is a well-known brand from Vancouver. This small shop in Chinoook Mall could get quite busy with people lining up, but the line moved quickly. The cheese tart was freshly made and melted right in my mouth. The cream cheese was very smooth & creamy and the crust had a good texture. You can buy 6 tarts in a box. The packing was nice & elegant too. Unfortunately they didn’t have a good bag to let me carry the box of cheese tarts. It was kinda hard to carry them walking around the mall. I wish they can open a shop in Toronto soon.
My favorite cheesecake! It’s so much better than Pablo’s cheesecake. Also their tiramisu is the best! Not only all their pastries are delicious the packaging is also really nice so it’s perfect to give as gifts too!
So here's the deal... The original Basque cheecake had like a goat cheese after to taste ..won't buy that again for $20 something... And packing was wrapped up in a way that it was made in China somewhere and shipped it here... Dot have the fresh vibes. Also bought size cheese tart for $27 and honest review here okay... DimSum Egg tarts were better*
The tart is too sweet for me, the cheese cake tastes terrible. overprice , not fresh at all coming from fridge, cold and iced inside. Not recommend at all.
