My son is a third-generation camper, and he LOVES Dart-Lo. He is typically reluctant to spend time outdoors, so I am thrilled when he comes home in filthy clothes and is able to tell me what he learned about soap carving or using a compass. In non-COVID years, the swimming lessons that are included are a huge bonus. During the summer of 2020, when COVID was a major concern and one I did not take lightly, Camp Fire took all of the necessary precautions to keep everyone safe. Kids still had an amazing time with masks on, and everyone got a bit more creative with the games they played. Dart-Lo is a magical place, and I really wish every kid in Spokane could experience it.
This was my older daughter's second time at camp sweyolakan, this year she helped as a dishwasher one session and a camper buddy a couple sessions. She loved it and can’t wait to go help again next summer. Also, my seven-year-old triplets went for the first time this year, they had a blast and also can’t wait to go back next summer!! They are excited to help in anyway they can and we really appreciate the help with finances through scholarships when needed, and my older children love the opportunity to help pay their own way by being a volunteer dishwasher or camper buddy. I feel summer camps are an important part of a child’s development and love what Camp Fire Inland Northwest does for our community.
I have 2 girls, my youngest went last year was afraid of going did not think that she would like it because it was away from home and away from mom, well she went and was talking about it for the whole next year. I tried to get my oldest but she did not want to go that year. This year my youngest was so excited to go again this year that she really wanted her older sister to go. She did and she had a good time! I told her that you have to enjoy camp at least one time in your life. It gets the kids out side to unplug and meet new people and learn more about the out doors. I can not wait for them to go again! All the counselors are wonderful and helpful and if you have any questions Anna is the best person to talk to.
4 years ago, I started checking out different camps day and overnight for my granddaughter to attend - I spoke with several people from Spokane /CDA area and called several of the camps in the area - We chose Campfire - My granddaughter Ella has attended Dart-Lo and Camp Sweyolaken every year since. Ella doesn't live here in the area and every year she gets so excited about attending Dart-Lo and Sweyolaken! - Spirit week is her favorite - the activities, enrichment, and friendships she has experienced over the past 4 years are definitely memories she will never forget - She started with Campfire Camps at the age of 5 - I have been extremely impressed with the communication of staff before and during camp. 2020 brought challenges due to Covid, and I am sooooo pleased that they made the decision to make whatever changes, accommodations and acclimation to keep camp open - their processes and procedures to keep campers, families and staff safe were spot on! - If I were to make any suggestion for improvement, I would encourage staff to practice and stick to a consistent, efficient and effective process for dropping off and particularly picking up from Camp Sweyolaken. 3 years the process has seemed unorganized and a bit confusing, which is in contrast to what we experience at Dart-Lo - Other than that, I highly recommend Camp Fire NW being a part of your family summers and family memories. Thank you counselors, volunteers, admin and donors for giving your community a great place for our kids to be kids !! Please know that without the donations of generous people, many of the kids attending Camp Fire camps, would not have the opportunity to. The financial assistance program they have in place is vital to our community! If you are looking for a place to donate time or dollars, please consider this amazing organization -
I first discovered Camp Sweyolakan and Camp Fire as part of the American Advertising Federation's Collective Campout. The site is a majestic escape from the stresses of life. It was something I wanted my kids to experience. We first went for parents weekend and they immediately fell in love with it. The following year I sent them for a weeks worth of overnight camp where they had an experience of a lifetime. The counselors and staff where extremely helpful in making their experience something to remember. My daughter has been 4 years in a row now and plans on attending and eventually working as a CIT. Thank you Camp Fire Camps for making memories I know my children will always remember.
The staff is amazing! They always take the time to answer all of my "stupid questions". They make my camper feel at home and included in the group. My camper had a great experience again this year. There were no major inconveniences due to covid protocols. My camper came home happy and healthy. What a great time. We are looking forward to next season!
My daughter loves going to Dart Lo camp and we plan to send her sisters and brother there too when they are old enough. It is a great old school outdoors camp. The kids come back exhausted, covered in dirt, and very happy!
My child absolutely loved camp. So much so, that she wants to attend again next summer. The entire process from registration, packing instructions, drop off and pick up - so easy and clear. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Everything was extremely simple and I appreciated the added guidelines and safety precautions due to Covid.
Camp fire Camp Dart Lo was a great experience for my 1st grader! He came home each day exhausted and was always excited to go back! He was disappointed on the days he didn’t have camp!
My child always returns with stories of fun. She talks a lot about the counselors. She enjoys them immensely. She returns more confident and independent and always has a lot of fun.
