Budget Rent-a-Car Vancouver International Airport (YVR)

Stay away. We rented a van and it was the worst vehicle I have ever driven. It was absolutely basic - nothing was upgraded - nothing. It was at least 10 years old. I have never seen anything like it in a rental fleet. Of course, they had nothing else. After getting the keys, they tell you it is in the last row... Good luck finding it. Then, no one tells you what to do or where to do. You just drive out. When we brought it back, there was a scrape under (UNDER) the front bumper. Seriously. Who would look there for a scrape? Not me. I didn't bother to look. I should have. The van was taken from the airport and driven to a downtown Vancouver hotel parking garage and back to the airport. Somehow, we magically scraped the underside of the bumper. Unbelievable. We were charged $690 to fix it. The van was not even worth that much. STAY AWAY FROM THEM. For that much money, they should have totaled the van. I will never rent from them again. Never.

Worst experience I ever had with this rental. I should have gone to Enterprise. I wanted to given them a try, but I regeret it now and vow to never let them have my business ever again. Bad attitude from these workers (from Middle East? or East Europe?)--when I returned the van, they said there was a crack on the windshield but there was nothing that I could see. Weeks later I get this phone call from an agent saying the same thing-showing me a picture with a scratch on the windshield--which was not there before or after I returned the car!!! I refused to pay, but this agent kept bugging me to death wasting much of my precious work time--she even said something like, "you know your time is valuable, not worth wasting it with me, so let's just settle this..." She proposed to lower the original charge of $320 to $150. . I did not agree, but still got charged the $150--like she said, my time was too valuable to continue the argument, so till the day I have not gone back to contend it. I will never again rent a car from Budget

I should have listened to the reviews on here rather than going with their “cheaper price.” They con you as soon as you get there by saying they’d like to “upgrade” you to another car that happens to be available today, $150/day MORE, and they only told me that because I had to ask, he wasn’t going to give that info up if I hadn’t have asked! Then the guy asks if I’d like full insurance, I said sure, when the bill comes it’s over $200 more than what I had reserved for. He went over the agreement so quickly I almost let it go. The thing they do not tell you is that you do NOT have to get insurance through them, especially if the CC you’re paying with already gives you coverage. I realized this all too late, I asked to speak to a manager, when she came she was very rude and could not comprehend anything other than her company’s rule book. I rarely write negative reviews, and this woman is the primary reason I’ve written this. She has 0 people skills and does not know what customer service is. There’s a reason why this place is rated so low, GO ELSEWHERE.

We had a very good experience and glad that we weren’t scared away by the poor reviews. Jason, at the front desk, was incredibly professional and friendly. The car was very clean and was brand new! The car return experience was also pleasant — it was quick and efficient. We will definitely rent from Budget again the next time we’re in Vancouver.

The car was in great condition and the staff was pleasant and efficient. It was a bit more expensive than I expected due to mandatory winter tires required for driving to Squamish. Not sure why it’s an extra cost when it’s mandatory, but at least I knew I was driving a safer vehicle in the mountains. Other than that, no complaints
