Blue Cactus

What a total train wreck this place is. The service was semi decent but the food is terrifying. I knew as soon as I stepped foot inside I didn’t want to eat here so tried to order safe. Went with nachos and a Mac and cheese with “Short rib” as most restaurants can’t mess up appetizers. The nachos were soggy and had a big clump of what seemed to be store bought guacamole in the middle. The pasta had weird grey meat in it. I ate it against my better judgement and now sick as a dog in bed. We joked that it was a place like you’d see on that show Bar Rescue but I don’t know if there’s any rescuing this place. Now excuse me while I end my review and go get sick again. Avoid this place completely and go to so many better places in the market.

Went here for a friend’s birthday, very cool and fun restaurant. We were seated in a more intimate area as we were a larger group. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, food was delicious but came slower then expected (maybe size of party or there was too many people already there)...location is further into byward market on corner so not really that hard to find, parking is challenging especially on weekend nights...

Great bar, only reason I am not giving five stars is because they do not have pitchers of beer! Atmosphere was great, nicely decorated, mood lighting, and jazz and funk music playing in background. Bonus points for having popcorn at every table instead of bread like most places.

I've always experienced great service and the atmosphere is pleasant. On the downside, the quality of the food is sub-par. The fajitas have a burnt taste and the sauces for the meat are not great. The beet salad has applesauce which does not complement the other ingredients. I've had the southwestern salad which wasn't fresh. Myself and friends/family have been disappointed several times in the past year with the quality of the food, I would not recommend this restaurant.

I actually enjoy this spot because of the friendly ambiance and location. It’s not too pub like yet not too luxe. The menu has a diverse selection which I really like about this place. The nachos are delicious and I could have more than one serving (1 serving feeds 2-3people). Prices are okay - it’s in the byward market so you help pay their rent. Taste wise, I would say some dishes taste great and others just average. Overall, I would recommend this place if you’re looking for good food and a great place to hang out with friends!
