We had a very strange experience staying at the Black Bear Lodge. Upon check in, we were shown to a very messy and smelly room; obviously uncleaned from the previous stay. We called the front desk, and they asked us to sit in the dirty room while they tried to find a new room for us.
After 10 minutes in the terrible room, they gave us a better and upgraded room. The extra star is for Don who was very apologetic and helpful with our accommodations.
The second night, THE HOT TUB WAS CLOSED. After a long day skiing, the only thing on our minds was some relaxing time in the hot tub. The woman at the front desk was pretty rude to us and told us we could go across town to the athletic center. The hot tub was closed due to "inclement weather", but isn't a beautiful snowfall the exact time you want to be in an outdoor hot tub?
Definitely don't stay here if there's snow in the forecast! (so basically all winter)

We loved our stay here! Waterville valley is amazing, great activities for the family fun exploring the area. We had a blast and talk about going back again for another vacation. New Hampshire at it's finest

Walking into the lodge my first impression was what you would expect when considering staying in a hotel that resides far from the main road. The lobby was small, lacked frills, and deserved a little attention. This room way clean and the staff were polite. I received my room key and was directed down the hall. My room, room 201, was clean and decorated lightly as you would imagine one would style a home. I won't complain but I counted 13 butterflies on the walls of the wash room and 3 framed photos and a butterfly clock in the shower. The shower walls were lavender and there was a heat lamp in the ceiling. All of the walls I'm the living area and bedroom were decorated as if we were in a cabin which came across as cute. The staff cleaned quickly leaving New clean towels and respected my belongings while still making the bed and tidying up. This location was a nice departure from the typical hotel environment. There was a nice indoor/outdoor pool on the grounds and a dry sauna new the bathrooms. The freedom trail passes made it possible to visit the community gym, pool, hiking, ski lifts, and events which would more than keep a family occupied and engaged in the local community. Even the free coffee at the front desk was pretty good. I visited for a professional but I absolutely think The Black Bear Lodge would serve a vacationing family well. 10/10 would go again.

600,000 people without power in New England-including me- due to nor’easter and Blackbear Lodge refuses to reimburse us for ANY of the full amount we paid in advance. Lots of great lodging at Waterville but NOT Blackbear.

This place is absolutely amazing! The staff is so friendly and so informed about the area! The room that we stayed in (411) was renovated and really nice. Everyone that we saw was so polite and very nice, the pool and hot tub were amazing. I highly recommend this place for anyone just trying to get away for a weekend or even a week!
