The hike to Bertha Falls was easy, though the view of the falls is admittedly not as impressive as other waterfalls. The water is easily accessible upon reaching the base of the falls, and offers a compromise to the hot weather if the hike was performed even in the morning.
Nice hike to go with family and ok for kids. I had to carry my 3 year old a bit because she got a little tired. It was busy when we went on the long weekend and you had to move to the side often to let others pass. Someone tried to bring a stroller up and abandoned it 100m in because it's too rocky and narrow. But strollers don't belong on hiking trails like that anyways. The falls are not bad. It's a little small but the views are pretty.
Scenic hike. It’s not a short hike, steep hill and then comes the gorgeous view of the town and lake, if you want to see the falls, take right and keep going for another 25 or 30 minutes. Keep going and you will reach the creek and small falls where you can dip your feet, swim and just relax you can do this beside the falls too but after that remember you keep going till the bridge that’s where you see the falls. Went with my family, was doable for 13 and 8 year old we did stop for rest in between. It was hard for us But worth it . We went on a Tuesday and it wasn’t busy.
Lower Bertha Falls is a common destination along a popular trail from the Waterton townsite. The falls are about 3 km, one-way, from the town. For hikers who want more, you can continue on to Bertha Lake about another 2 km one-way, or take a side-trip to Bertha Bay on the way back 800 m one-way on a side trail. You are in bear country, so prepare accordingly.
Great hike, it's a decent amount of work, we managed to do it with a pair of sneakers and some Jean's. Not as bad as some made it seem, the hike is totally worth it to see the falls.
Absolutely Beautiful, great way to spend the afternoon. This maybe an easier hike but it’s not to short. Regardless worth the hike.
Majority was uphill getting there. ~5km hike. Beautiful scenery on the way. Tripped and fell a couple of times going back downhill, tripped on tree roots and such. Lost 1 star mostly because I fell, haha. More sign marking distances would be appreciated, that's just a suggestion, but I understand why it might not happen.
The hike to Bertha Falls is well worth your effort, as it provides beautiful views of Upper Waterton Lake and the surrounding mountains. Many people enjoy playing in the water at the base of the falls, as it is easily accessible from the trail. Be advise that you will be walking through the 2017 wildfire burn area, with many standing dead trees.
Our family of four did this hike in July of 2020. We loved this hike. It was my favourite one in Waterton so far. A bit of an elevation in the beginning but not that bad at all. There is no shade since the trees were burnt in the 2017 fire. That being said the falls at the end provide some relief from the heat. I recommend dipping your feet in the water after the hike up...Great views all along the way, many picture spots. Lots of people but didn’t feel crowded at all. Wish we could have continued on to the lake and upper falls but we didn’t have the time. We were camping at the Waterton townsite campground and could easily walk over to the trailhead from our campsite.
Bertha Falls is a pretty waterfall in Waterton that can be accessed by an easy and scenic hike from town. The trail to the Lower Bertha Falls begins on Evergreen Street in the town of Waterton, just past Cameron Falls. It is the same trail that ultimately leads to Bertha Lake. The relatively short hike to the waterfalls is a popular one and the trail is well-maintained and has some gorgeous views of the surrounding landscapes along the way. The hike is fairly easy with some moderately steep sections, but nothing too difficult at all. The trail passes through mostly forests but opens up frequently to provide lovely views of the scenery. The waterfalls cascade over some slanted rock ledges and they are very beautiful and unique! There is a wooden footbridge that crosses a creek along the trail where you can get views of the waterfalls. Beside the footbridge, there is a well beaten narrow path off the main trail which leads up a small hill through the trees to a ledge along the creek where you can get even better views of the falls while standing directly in front of them. If you visit the falls earlier in the morning, you will probably have the entire place to yourself. My mother and I were alone there and the atmosphere was so peaceful and pleasant. Once you reach the falls, make sure to spend some time admiring the incredible natural beauty around you and just relax. If you are feeling adventurous and are looking for a challenge, I recommend continuing along the trail across the wooden bridge to hike the strenuous trail to Bertha Lake, which involves a steady uphill climb and navigating steep switchbacks up the side of the mountain!
