Great views of Higgins Lake! Decent beer selection, full bar, and lots of different food options made it an easy choice for lunch with the whole family. Even though it was busy we were still able to get a table in a reasonable amount of time. All our food was delicious, but the french fries and Sante Fe egg rolls were the highlight! This place is really good. We came from out of town and someone suggested this place to us so we gave it a shot and were pleasantly surprised. We ordered a Bahama Mama to drink and it was really tasty. We must have had a different bartender than the other reviewers or they had good training since then lol. We also ordered the fried pickles good Santa Fe Chicken Egg Roll Yummy Bang Bang Shrimp amazing and my favorite Fish Tacos bland, soggy batter, and nothing exciting except the sauce. Service was great and when we arrived it was a "seat yourself" atmosphere so we sat right next to the window and got a view of the lake. If we come back to this area, we will definitely stop in again.
Exactly what you want from a bar/restaurant: fast service, hot food, good beer. This is the fastest I have ever been served in a restaurant. We sat down, promptly received menus and silverware, and were told our server would be there in a minute...and she was. We ordered craft beer on draft, had it on our table in less than 5 minutes, ordered our food, and had our apps in less than 5 minutes. Apps were spicy fried green beans with a sweet chili sauce and loaded tater tots. They were so hot that we sipped our beers for a couple of minutes and then our food arrived, we ordered the traditional sliders to share. No kidding, we went from sitting down to having drinks and all of our food in less than 15 minutes! The place was nearly full when we arrived and a wedding shower party of around 20 people cam in right after we sat down, so we were pretty impressed with the service! Food: perfectly cooked, hot, and so yummy! The sliders were bigger than usual and not greasy or soggy. They had a good sized patty, fresh toppings, and the house made yum yum sauce is great. In fact, so good and so fast that I forgot to take any pictures! We would definitley go back if we're in the area again!
In Houghton on a vacation. Happened to stop in, food was FANTASTIC. However, we decided to sit at the bar, bartender definitely more interested in local/ gentlemen, I understand this dynamic however, coming from a tourist town myself St. Joseph MI visitors/ females should also get attention as well. 3 for food 0 for bar service.
The food tasted good, but the burgers that we received straight out of the kitchen where cold. The waitress didn't even offer to replace or do anything about it. I had the spinach artichoke dip with pita chips, that was amazing . I also had a steak Mexican bowl, my rice was still cold at the bottom of the bowl, but tasted amazing and that sauce the delish!! I would definitely come again.
The Philly cheese steak bowl was very good. Basically, it's a cheese steak sandwich on potatoes. I didn't need all the potatoes, but overall, it was very good. Parking: Lot was snow-covered, but it is February.
First time here, my neighbor recommended going on NYD. Hit the spot and we'll go back for sure. Sweet potato fries with the cinnamon butter dip is awesome!!Food: 5/5
Sometimes we find the best food in the most unlikely of places. As we were wandering through Michigan we took an exit to find food and a few miles off the highway found this pub sitting on a lake. The food was good pub food, but the service and friendly smiles seemed to make it better than average. Great spot. I’d loved to be a regular here!
I had one of the gourmet burgers with fries. The burger couldn't have been better if I made it myself. And I'm a pretty good cook. Fries were just the way I like em. Light crisp on the outside. I had a bloody Mary from the bar that was as good as anywhere. Our waitress was efficient and friendly though possibly a little over worked. But in today's restaurant business, that's to be expected as good help is hard to find. I WILL return to the Backdoor Saloon. Highly recommended.
Huge salads! Burgers looked good, Brussel sprouts must be good alot of people were ordering. Service was good, little mix up on bill but got it fixed with no problems. Food came quicklyFood: 5/5
