Applegate & James

My husband and I love Applegate & James. Our past several experiences have been great: nice furniture, reasonable prices and really great staff. We are planning to look for a chair this week.

On our first visit my family bought and and ordered a coffee table as a gift. We weren't thrilled with the service but we purchased the table anyway without complaint. We needed to wait 8 weeks before it would arrive. Fine, that's ok, but while waiting a few weeks for our order, we made a second visit. We attended to buy furniture. We were again followed around incessantly, staffed peeked around corners and you could hear footsteps follow your own only to turn around and find staff uncomfortably close but not saying anything to you. When they did speak they were rude and gave us the impression that we were a nusaance even though we were ready to spend money and already did spend money in their store, (not that they remembered us which was fine.). We visited well before closing on a weekday. We were the only customers there and I can see why with the attitude of the staff. I have never had an experience quite like that and rarely post reviews anywhere. Honestly this is my third review of any establishment in my life and the other two were positive. I felt very uncomfortable and was glad to be out of there. Even though I went in with the most positive of attitudes, that was turned on it's head after 15 minutes in this establishment. When our coffee table arrived for pickup, we received a call that it was in and let the staff know we would be there to pick it up on the weekend. We thought maybe the previous impression we had wasn't accurate and gave the benefit of the doubt. However when we called ahead for a second time to let them know that we would in fact be picking it up as discussed, the staff was very rude and told us we were not allowed to come pick it up as it was Sunday and there were 'NO PICKUPS ON SUNDAYS, regardless of the product'. It would have been nice to know this when we had let them know days earlier on the phone that we were coming. It is also an inconvenience as the coffee table was a single box, and the weekend is the only feasible time for pickup for many families as many work on weekdays and our particular drive time to this location was 40 minutes away. Knowing what I know now, I would never purchase from this location again. Their quality of products is not much better than any other store carries, and after walking in with little to no expectation I was very put off by what seemed to be a purposeful mediocre customer service experience. I got the impression that they are perfectly happy to be paid to stand around and that their pay grade did not include helping customers if they came in at all.

Too bad it's going out of business. The owner is such a lovely man.

Sorry they're out of business...our whole home is full of their stuff.

High prices for going out business sale. No tax just meant the taxes were hidden in the prices.
