I visited the Apple Store at Market Mall in Calgary on the iPhone 16 launch day. While I understand it was an exceptionally busy day, I was disappointed by the service from one of the staff members. An East Asian gentleman with gray hair and medium build—whose skin color is similar to mine—was standing just a few meters away, holding an iPad and looking around, yet he didn’t acknowledge me. When I approached him for assistance in replacing my phone’s screen protector, I had to wait until he finished his conversation with a colleague before he responded.nnWhen he finally addressed me, his demeanor was cold and expressionless. He avoided eye contact and communicated in a way that felt scripted and impersonal. His obviously stern attitude, in contrast with the proactive and attentive service that most other staff possess—although he had normal eye contact when interacting with other customers—made me feel that he seemed to have rejection and discrimination towards me, a customer with similar skin color and similar race. He seemed to have made default assumptions about my race and stance based on my appearance.nnFortunately, he directed me to a lively and enthusiastic specialist who provided excellent service and professionally assisted with the screen protector replacement. His positive attitude truly made a difference in my experience.
I purchased the new iPhone 16 Pro Max on its first day of release along with 9 different accessories. The phone is great, but during the unboxing of one of these accessories, one of the items was completely missing from the box!! Now I am getting the run-around from Apple I keep getting re-directed and it is uncertain if and how this situation will get resolved. After spending thousands of dollars, I expect some due diligence during a major purchase. Does the store check that items are actually in their boxes before placing them in a bag? This is causing significant inconvenience for me. The sales associate or advisor who was assisting me was brand new and undergoing training on the day of my pick-up. This has been a very unpleasant and upsetting experience for me.
I had the best experience at Apple today! I had an idea of what I needed for my current courses and my hopes for the future. Eric was SO helpful, explaining the differences between the macbooks, which specs to look for and why. We had the decision made so fast! He was also so helpful in explaining the differences in the Ipads and pens to me! I'm so incredibly happy with my purchase! I will certainly be going back!!
