Hole in the wall Chinese takeout, serving your regular Cantonese/North American Chinese takeout classics. Prices are amazing for the food quantity and fresh food served here by the friendly owners. As a pescatarian, they’ve got a huge seafood selection for me to choose from. The XO stir fried rice noodles were flavourful with generous seafood pieces cooked with it, while the Kung pao shrimp is more on the North American style sweeter side as opposed to the traditionally spicy when done the Chinese style. Although this is more of a takeout spot, they do have a 2 tables in there for anyone looking to have a quick meal in the takeout containers, which was what I did with my companion. I look forward to trying more of their dishes, especially the appetizers and dumplings.
I've been searching for a congee restaurant west of Markham and east of Mississauga. This area is barren of good Chinese food options for the most part. Ann's peaked my interest after reading their positive reviews. Upon arrival, Ann's kitchen aromas were worth drooling over. Our hopes were raised. Our takeout feast for two was ready at the counter. Ann's Special Fried Rice was tasty though a bit dry, and came in a generous portion with shrimp, scallop and other seafood bits. HK Style Spicy Clam was infused with wok flavours and would've been delicious if not for the broken shells in every bite! The Chicken Congee was a safe bet, smooth with large chunks of tender meat. With congee, I almost always order Deep Fried Calamari, and theirs was quite comparable to the other more well-known restaurants. However, their Deep Fried Chicken did not impress the KFC fan in our household. The meat was too dry, the dark crispy skin was over-fried, and tasted just bland overall. Sadly I didn't get to meet the friendly Ann, and food was mostly mediocre on this visit. I came for takeout because the restaurant was said to have limited dine-in tables. Yet only 1 out of their 4 tables were occupied on the Sunday evening visit. Good flavours, wishing for better execution.
Please don't come expecting a premium dining experience, that's not it at all. This place is one of the best Chinese takeout that is true to their taste with a very generous portion orderes three items that lasted 3 meals for the two of us. Dining at the restaurant is possible, but be mindful that it isn't a very spacious restaurant. Anne explains it "like McDonald's" however she can be attentive only if she is not busy. We didn't expect her to be attentive given how busy she was but she came out and apologized explaining how busy the night was and how they are operating in small number. There are various range of food to choose from but their fried rice is true to its principle and the beef noodle is really good.
Ordered take-out from Ann’s Congee. We called in around 5:00pm and they said the order would take 1hr to be ready. We still continued to order as we weren’t in a rush, and glad they were honest with how long it would take. They are very busy during dinner time, but the food is always great. Family owned business and the service is always friendly. Would highly recommend if you’re looking to support a local Chinese restaurant.
Awesome place for cantonese food! Pork and seafood are best! We are pretty regular to this place and will highly recommend. The place is simple yet authentic. Portions are generous! We have done party orders from them and our guests loved their food every time.
Don’t expect customer service. They’re not interested. Expect excellent food. Shrimp and noodles. Shrimp wontons. Lobstah and ginger. Eggplant with pork sauce. Shrimp and broccoli. All delicious. All wonderful. Not too expensive. Good, honest food. Been coming for years and no reason to change.
Nice Congee shop. I am away from home living alone. I was ill and got it delivered. I didn’t feel like any food but had this and stomach felt better. Thank you.
I came across Ann's Congee in my never ending quest to find the GTA's best Beef Ho Fun wok-fried rice noodle with beef, also known as #12 on the menu and was nicely surprised by what was served up. Since then I've had a few other dishes but always come back to my one true love, lady Beef Ho Fun the key ingredient being the "wok-smoked" flavour that many miss - you gotta almost burn it!. Anyway, more about Ann's... It's a hole in the wall but the food is served hot, flavourful and at a decent price. Great bang for your buck. Also her home-made chilli oil sauce is dynamite - I strongly recommend you grab one. And be sure to ask Ann for any daily specials - sometimes you can get lucky with a big portion of fried eggplant or green beans for $6.99 or $7.99. And if you have a top Beef Ho Fun restaurant let me know! Sincerely yours, Jeff C., vice president and co-founder of the Worldwide Beef Ho Fun Fan Club, local 115 Toronto chapter.
Great little spot. Food came out quick and hot. Ann was wonderful and gave us good recommendations for what to order. Portions were good for the price. Would definitely recommend the turnip! The only thing is some menu items say vegetarian but they might not be. Make sure to confirm if there is meat in a dish before ordering
I love finding mom and pop gems. This place is small but packs good flavors for a reasonable price. We love soft shell crab fried rice and have finally another place that does it well. The shrimp Chow Mein was also really good. They didn't skimp on ingredient. Excellent value. They do hey a little overwhelmed when it's busy... So please be patient with the very nice family. As a personal preference... I'd suggest reducing the batter in bagged items... Treat it more like a light tempura. Just enough to change the texture but not so much that it add 25% to the volume. I definitely will want to go back...
