Reviews
Unfortunately, the PAST reviews on ACC are most likely well deserved, BUT things have changed, and for the much better. Dr. Shura is no longer part of the practice, and it is now under the careful and conscientious management, care and leadership of Dr. Andersen, a veterinarian of the highest caliber and ethical standing. He has been my veterinarian for more than 15 years and has always counselled me on the best, most up-to-date, and cost effective care for all my pets. He's incredible approachable and very friendly, without a hint of phoniness. He does not up-sell any services and/or tests at anytime, unlike other veterinarians, but works/ed with me and my pets to create plans with which we could all be happy. The clinic now has a completely different philosophy that makes it the best practice in Vancouver.
Wow, these reviews really need to be updated. I'm so sorry for what sounds like terrible service some of you have received here, but you should know that although the structure of the building and location remains the same, it is housing a much different staff than the one that contributed to your negative experiences. There are new doctors at this clinic, and the one I was dealing with, Dr. Vasilescu, was excellent. My neighbour dealt with Dr. Anderson and had only good things to say about him. My cat received kind and thorough treatment with what I felt was above and beyond service. Calling to check up on my pet's progress, answering all my questions, never making me feel like I was taking up too much of their time, even though I probably was, worried mum that I am! The staff is genuine, helpful, and friendly and most importantly, truly seem to love animals. I encourage all of you that have had prior bad experiences to give this clinic another chance.
I have not yet seen a vet here but I take my dog in for regular blood tests and the front desk staff and techs are always friendly and helpful. I have read a lot of the reviews below and I think it is important to note that people should indicate which vet they see. I believe there are quite a few here. I have been seeing the Animal Homeopath, Julie Lee for over a year with both of my dogs and have found her wonderful to work with and knowledgable. I try to avoid conventional treatment as much as possible and treat the root cause of issues and the Holistic wing has been great in that respect. I also want to point out that whenever your dog is sick you have to work with your vet to determine best practices for your dog. If your vet prescribes a medication you need to do your research! Don't just blindly follow what they tell you, find out as much as you can to make educated decisions.
I recently took my dog to this animal care clinic, for a possible UTI and Dr Shura saw her. During my dogs exam, my dogs seizure like activity was seen by Dr Shura. He called it "neurological and a head jerk". Anyways we took a urine sample for her UTI and performed the appropriate testing - urine analysis, culture and sensitivity. So 3 days later my results came back and he prescribed Orbax. Orbax is to be used with caution with dogs that have neurological issues such as seizure and epilepsy activity. I researched the drug and asked Dr Shura, considering he claimed from what he saw in my dog during that initial exam was neurological, should my dog be taking this drug? Dr. Shura got very aggressive and egotistical and said chances of anything would happen it, would be like being struck by lightening. And he asked me to trust him. Well 5 days into my pour girls dosage of Orbax, she had a massive neurological side effect from it. I was so scared I hospitalized my girl, at another vets for 24 hours, so she could be on IV fluids and flush that garbage out of her system. Of course now I was recommended to see a neurological expert. Which I did. During my exam we went over many things. One of which was my dogs seizure like activity. The neurological expert that cost me $250 for 30 min work told me that my dog most likely has seizures. So i asked about the orbax and he said it is a 1 in a million chance that the drug would effect her. Well guess what buddy Im in your office, your a neurological expert and my dog had a massive neurological side effect from a drug that DR SHURA prescribed fully knowing she had a neurological issue. And you gna tell me that its 1 in a million. I guess my pour girl was that 1! Im just getting the run around because one of their colleagues fully knew he @$#&* my dog. The money doesn't bother me, its the FACT that my dog was knowingly #%@ by a so called Doctor...Dr. Shura. Needless to say I called the Animal care clinic when my dog had her massive side effect to let them know what had happen to her...And guess what, Not 1 staff member or that COWARD Dr. Shura has called to see how my girl is doing.
We were customers for 7 years. 5 stars for Dr Shura, 1 start for billing and quality of remaining vet surgical "talent" Something has changed in the last 6 months... the focus appears to be less on the actual pet health and more on what they can bill for... The same procedure today costs me 33% more then it did the for last 4 years teeth cleaning... when asked why the sudden spike and all the NEW categories of charges on the quote, it was explained that "they forgot to charge me those things the last times..." SERIOUSLY?? for 4 years... Wasn't buying it for a second....I explained this is enough to make me want to go elsewhere... The girl on the phone was excellent and I did my best to not take out my frustrations on her. She asked if I would like the office manager to contact me, I said absolutely, I have yet to hear back from anyone at the clinic to date 2 weeks ago. I gave the office manager 4 days to call before calling the clinic and requesting an electronic copy of his 7 year history so I could take it to his new vet... "No problem, there you go...anything else I can do?"..... no questions around why i was going or anything... 7 years of history...gone by the time the email was received... They never suggest anything as being optional and never seem to give any added value for the ridiculous amount of money they charge for menial tasks like anal glands... 37$ for 5 minutes worth of work and I have to request they rinse him off before bringing him back out... why not take 5 more minutes and give him a full bath and don't make me ask in the first place... Another event that left a poor taste in my mouth was recommending the removal of a small benign bump on my dog's back... they strongly recommended removal to "be sure" it does not change..."but not to worry, you won't be able to tell he had anything done" WRONG... they left a large bald scar in the middle of his back larger then the initial bump! Finally... I was in for regular annual shots and opted out of one of the needles as I did not feel it was necessary... apparently, they did not pass the message on and he received it anyway... I voiced my opinion on this and was charged without even so much as an apology for their miscommunication... Disappointing after so many year, visits... and money... I'd rather pay the same for a vet I feel is honest about optional services/procedures upfront, without having to ask ***Update, prior to departure, the initial complaint about the high quote was in response to them identifying a fractured molar that would have to come out before it gets infected... upon changing vets, I took him in specifically to get a new quote on the removal of this fracture molar... THERE WASN'T ONE!!!! I was beside myself... couldn't believe it! After all said and done, the routine teeth cleaning cost me 30% of the total cost of the quote from animal care clinic and the y trimmed his nails and did his glands for FREE!!! without me having to ask! THAT is customer service... Stay AWAY from this clinic unless of course you own shares in the company... So long Billable Care Clinic
This clinic should be shut down, for over charging and abusing customers and animals. These people take advantage of our devotion to the animals we love. I will NEVER take an animal here again. I saw them actually kick a dog when they thought I had left the lobby. These people should not be caring for animals.
