AmericInn Lodge & Suites Saugatuck — Douglas

We recently stayed at the Douglas Michigan location. When we arrived the hot tub was not working so we were offered a suite with a jacuzzi tub for the night. When we went swimming in the pool in the morning with our infant it was very chilly and below temperature. We went upstairs to our room and attempted to use the jacuzzi...the button was stuck and the jets did not turn on. After getting my infant down for a nap I went down to speak with the front desk...they offered to have maintenance come and take a look...however my baby was sleeping. I said they were welcome to fix it when he woke. I asked to have an adjustment on our room because it didn't work... i was informed that the front desk did not have the power to make adjustments, Only the site manager Brandon is able to make adjustments. After numerous phone calls I finally spoke with Brandon, he offered us a discount on our next return visit. I informed him we would prefer an adjustment on our bill because we would not be returning to the area. I am not satisfied with how our stay was handled.

Seems like they are understaffed. We waited for ten minutes at the front desk before finally calling the hotel line from our cell phone to get some assistance. The young man working the desk was friendly but also clearly had too many responsibilities. He was doing laundry, leaving the front desk completely unmanned. Later this same young man was vacuuming the lobby, cleaning the food service area, and the next day was handling the breakfast buffet. In fact, besides one maid, he is the only worker I saw. Further peaking to the staffing issue, Check-in time is 3 pm but we weren't able to get into our room until 4 pm because it wasn't clean yet. This was very frustrating because we were told at 3 it would be ready in fifteen minutes. After thirty minutes, we were told it was almost ready. Then after nearly an hour, it took about follow up inquiry and he had to run to the room to check on it. Finally we were able to access our room. The room was mostly clean and sufficient. However, if you plan on sleeping at all, bring your own pillow. The pillows were some of the worst I've ever seen in a hotel. Completely broken down and paper thin. Terrible. Given the price we paid (not cheap), I was pretty disappointed in our experience.

I enjoyed my stay very much. While the facilities need some standard maintenance (summer and Lake Michigan take a toll) breakfast was great, the staff could not have been better. The location and the shuttle was really great! Codos to the night shift, I am an insomniac who paces and they met me with a smile and answered any questions I had. Parking lot is also well lit.

I had a great experience at this location. The hotel staff was professional and very friendly. The front desk clerk, Scott, was exceptionally nice and accommodating. The night auditor was extremely friendly. I was impressed at how hard they worked - committed to customer service.

Great night person at this location! He was very accommodating, and in general a very nice person! The room was beautiful, however we were located directly next to the pool and hot tub, which proved to be extremely noisy. We were told the room would be discounted due to the noise by the lady working during the next morning-however, we looked at the receipt and we were not discounted. Would return, but would definitely either not take the same room, or would request the discount to be applied by the night shift at least. The continental breakfast is not just a few.doughnuts and coffee-great selection of both hot & cold foods, including yogurt, bacon, scrambled eggs, and even a waffle maker! Friendly atmosphere, I would recommend!
