Ordered a burger and fries for window pickup. On getting to the window 30 mins later they were unaware of my order. Was told they would make my order and to return in 10 mins. On returning 10 minuntes later was told they made the wrong burger and to return a third time!! Final order 50 minutes after ordering and 3 trips backand forth from office was delicious. Food was good but regrettably unsure how I could frequent an establishment this disorganized.
Haven't had alley burger since they closed their food truck down but it's just as good as I remembered it. The pork burger with cheese curds is amazing and is one of the best burgers I've ever had in Calgary. Definitely a "hole in the wall". If you get the "alley burger," make sure you eat it while it's still hot so you can get the amazing cheese stretch!
A quick pit stop while floating the Bow. Service was fast and friendly and the OG burger was delicious. So nice to get a burger that focuses on the good stuff meat/cheese/sauce instead of all of the “salad” toppings.
Cool little window where you can get a super cheese Burger and awesome crispy fries definitely worth going back for more.
I live across the street, have been often and the burgers are delicious. However their ordering system and the errors that are caused by it are inexcusable. My GF has a gluten and dairy allergy and multiple times she has either been served the wrong bun or cheese on the burger after repeatedly asking to remove it. Not sure if anything will change but I would recommend being very careful if you have an allergy
This place makes a fantastic burger, reminds me of old school backyard BBQ. However it could hardly be a stupider set-up, especially in the winter. They have signs on the building pointing you to what exactly I'm not sure. You are supposed to stand at the side window which has no signs and wait for someone to see you outside like a loser. Probably no one will. And if you go inside there is a gauntlet of people to go through just to find someone to find someone to find your burger. And that's if you order ahead. Go somewhere else if you value your time.
I was intrigued by the pork and cheese curd combo for a burger but found it was fairly bland. Definitely a quality burger but needs some veggies to earn that last star. Poutine was as good as you can get in Alberta.
We tried Alley Burger this evening to try the latest offering from Connie and John. Opening the bag with our order finding sadly that our order was wrong, I should have checked it at the pickup window. Not a good way to start a food experience. We ordered Whole Truck burgers, poutine, spicy and seasoned fries, gravy and the Big Alley combo. We got the burgers, fries and gravy and an OG pork patty - no combo-no beer!! Disappointed. So, the fries and gravy were good. The poutine was so-so. The burgers were underwhelming, no seasoning and hard/messy to eat. The competition is better by far Lil’Empire burger-so good. The OG was unremarkable and dense. I wish we could give a better review, just can’t. Not worth the money we paid, particularly when you don’t get what you ordered.
I'm somewhat sad writing this review. I truly had high hopes for this local burger joint and i wanted to give it a fair shake. I have to emphasize that i drove for 9 minutes after pickup before eating the food, but given our current COVID restrictions, it's not an unfair example. It's what many diners may experience. I'll start by saying that the online ordering was fast and simple, allowing for timed pickups. As i had never been there before, i had a bit of trouble finding the pickup window, but that's on me. Service was friendly and enthusiastic I was among the first customers of the day. Now the food. We ordered one of each burger - the Og, The Full Truck and the Impossible. We also ordered fries with seasoning salt and a Caesar salad. Pretty standard fare. Again stipulating that there was a lag between pick up and eating, the highly anticipated curd cheese on the burgers was cold, hard and overwhelming in each case. Would it be better if it was pillowy/melty warm? Probably. The OG pork patty was tough and dense, almost like a sausage round from a fast food restaurant breakfast sandwich- not a winner. The Full Truck had the regular beef patty and was ok and lacked seasoning, but the toppings specifically the chopped lettuce was difficult to navigate. Same for the impossible burger. The fries unfortunately were heavily oversalted and even with a vigorous wiping were still tough to eat due to the salt. Lastly, the Caesar salad was kept in a cooler that perhaps was set too high, as we had sections of lettuce that were near frozen and difficult to pull apart. Unsure if this product is made in house or pre-purchased, but the packaging suggests it's purchased so clarification is in need. Safe to say the bacon was meh and the dressing was very tight and difficult to get on everything. I love me a good burger and want to support local and independent as much as possible. I would try Alley again when i can eat it immediately to get a sense of the intent, but for now, my review stands.
So-so, burgers and poutine are quite expensive for their size and not something I would get unless I am in a burger or die situation. Seeing as how it's in the same building by the same people, the pizza is a better value for sure. Do appreciate the tables they laid out, though!
