The tasting platter let's you try a variety of different cuts of meat for the price and definitely recommend trying if you don't have any particular cut you want to go for. Biggest recommendations is 100% to get the wagyu oil rice which was super flavorful.Food: 5/5
We came for a birthday dinner when it was super snowy in Vancouver a few weeks back. We had plans for another restaurant downtown, but due to the snow, we decided to go somewhere closer and walkable. We were taken care of by Kevin and it was some of the best service we have ever received. The place was quite empty due to a lot of cancellations, but we are glad we went there. Restaurants are not only made through good food, but through good service. If Kevin isn't the manager, he should be. And if he doesn't get a raise, we would be upset. If we ever come back, it's because of him. We can get Wagyu and good BBQ grill anywhere. But he is the reason why this restaurant is on our future plans. One thing I would mention is the issue with the ventilation system. It's either on, and cold because the exhaust system blows inside or something. Feels like the door was left open - especially uncomfortable on a cold snowy night. Or it's off, and the area is smokey. For a high end place, that should be looked into.
I came here with my date and we sat at the counter seats tables I think are only for groups of 4, yet it was still an intimate experience with enough privacy as there are dividers between couples. The ordering experience is unique where you scan a QR code add items to your cart and place the order via phone. We ordered the 'holy cow' platter for 2, spicy beef soup, and Hokkaido scallop miso soup. Everything was excellent! The quality of the beef was comparable to what I ate in Japan, really high-quality cuts of beef with lots of fat marbling. My favourite cuts were the short rib and the rib-eye steak. I love how simply it was prepared, using little-no marinade for the beef, highlighting the taste of the meat rather than the seasoning so you can taste the quality and natural flavour of the beef. Provided are 3 dipping sauces, a house sauce similar in taste to ponzu, pink salt, and lemon/yuzu sauce. All the sauces complemented the meat super well and were not overpowering. The portion was great, and there was enough beef for the two of us to grill. Onto the soups, the spicy beef soup impressed us with the steak chunks and egg drop. It was flavorful and went well with the side of rice ordered. The Hokkaido miso soup was also great with many pieces of salmon and 2 large Hokkaido scallops in it -- each maintaining its flavour still and not drowned out by the flavour of the soup, unlike some places. The whole experience was so fun too! I love grilling meat, and although my date and I were seated together we each got our own personal grill. I would highly recommend coming here!
Good experience, and I really liked the uni scallop appetizer. Definitely as expected but nothing crazy amazing. Good for a slow eating date night with a variety of meat and sea food to grill.Food: 4/5
Almost 5 stars to me, save one star for the improvement. It is a great place with great foods. If you're a meat lover, then you would love this place. You could have a table for group or sit at the bar if only two persons. It is quite expensive if you want to fill up your stomach. Service is great. Their recommendation is fair and good. For sure will come again.
Was a bit disappointed because I made reservation few weeks ahead of time but was given a counter space instead of a table. It was hard to talk to my family as we were sitting side by side. Came in because reviews say high end good quality beef but the beef was disappointing. It was not tender and most had no beef flavor. We also got Local and Hokkaido uni. Unfortunately the local uni was much better. Hokkaido uni was not very fresh and bitter. Scallop and local uni appy was our favourite of the night! Very nice and clean atmosphere. Would say try it once but not with the price.
Was referred to this place by a friend. The ventilation system is not as nearly good as other Japanese bbq restaurants. Inhaled an alarming amount of smoke during my visit. Significantly concerning for my own or other customer’s health. Most of the meat varieties have ok quality. Considering this, the price is too high and portions are too small. Customers are to be ordered by themselves on the phone. For a higher-end bbq establishment, this is questionable. Other reviews mentioned that they have a machine that can remove smells off clothes, but was never mentioned by the server. During my visit on a Friday night, the restaurant is not busy at all. This might be an indication of the restaurant being in a state of underwhelming, perceived by its patrons or potential customers.
Great food and selection. Service was phenomenal. The Holy cow meat platter is awesome, but the chicken, beef tongue and pork jowls were our favourite. Will definitely be back for more!Food: 5/5
To the Staff at Ally 16 . Thanks for the great food ,top notch service and a place to eat that makes a memorable evening . A great place to enjoy food friends and fun . Thanks to chef Matthew for his culinary perfection . Also thanks to Kevin and Dong the staff that make this place Worth the visit . When in Vancouver it's the best Japanese barbecue place this side of the Rockies .Thanks again .
Servers were super friendly and attentive and helped us with cooking recommendations and actually cooking some of the food/taking it off for us before it got overcooked : everything we tried was really delicious!! Would recommend the Holy Cow and the mackerel. The cuts of meat were really tasty. They also had a spraying machine at the end that removed food smells from clothing, which was a fun hi tech touch :
