This place is so cool with the train station theme. However the food was a different story. I was honestly very disappointed by the level of food offered here. The food combinations feel dropped into the bowl and doesn’t really come together when eating. I ordered the curry beef and that was hugely disappointing because the photo looked so good. Curry so thick and saucy, but what showed up was the opposite really. Bland and runny curry that isn’t even salty.
The food was quite disappointing. It was an interesting concept similar to other Asian "cart noodle" experiences where you can pick your own soup, noodles, and toppings. However all of the ingredients were seemingly canned or frozen. Worst of all was the udon which should have been the star of the show but it tasted like frozen udon purchase from T&T. Their signature duck was also quite mediocre. Tenderness was on point but it was neither flavorful nor juicy. The staff were extremely friendly and inviting and really tried their best to make it pleasant and approachable for new patrons. They spoke fluent enough English to communicate everything with a slight Japanese accent. The atmosphere was cutely Japanese but the seating is quite limited and oddly arranged making for a large standing area and a narrow hallway reminiscent of a subway restaurant. The most egregious waste however was an enormous Japanese drink vending machine that dominates the public seating/standing area. It wasn't even functional and is an awkward sore thumb in an already strangely laid out restaurant. Overall it was not a fantastic experience. I had high hopes seeing the reviews and menu but I hope that they can improve the food. The seating is clearly an afterthought and probably rightly so given that I think it's mainly a takeout restaurant so it's forgiven mostly. At the end of the day though the food needs to be much better to earn another visit from me. Final note.. it's not a deal breaker and it really isn't their fault, but we did drive and park nearby and had to pay $6/hr. Drastic difference from going to Robson Street where it was for some odd reason $1/hr. This is again not their fault but just a note for anyone who was planning on driving down. Probably best to visit on foot, cycling, or transit.
The service was really warm and welcoming, but the food was only so-so. The oden was pretty bland, though they did offer some miso to eat alongside it, and there were a variety of sauces available as well. The udon soup was good, though the noodles were slightly overcooked. The oden was $11, and it was an extra $1 to add the udon, which is a pretty good deal.
Cozy fun place, hearty food. It has a fun twist on Japanese cuisine, so I'd say it's a Genki cuisine! The volume and price is amazing in Vancouver right now. got a full oden plate + one bowl of udon noodle = $12 or so Maybe it's more kansai style west side of Japan, soup base is quite light side, me from Tokyo east side of Japan, I needed to add some soy sauce they have a variety of sauce btw. The owner Gigi is super friendly and wonderful. I think her lovely vibes is something every Vancouverite needs now... her existence itself makes food taste better, IMO. : Thank you so much Gigi! Lovely to get to know you :
I just had the most wonderful experience at this restaurant. The owner was so kind and helpful and made us feel right at home! I couldn’t stop smiling the entire time I was eating my bowl of noodles - both because of how delicious it was and the lovely atmosphere! I cannot say enough great things about Genki Eki, we will definitely be back very soon!!!
I was so excited when I walked by this shop because I love udon. Staff was friendly and inviting. The girl who make my noodle was new and accidentally added a topper fish flake I didn’t want. I didn’t mine but she apologized and offered to give me an extra topping. I chose beef and onion for protein and they gave me a lot of meat. They were also quite generous with the noodles you can actually ask for more. However, the overall bowl of udon noodles was quite disappointing for almost $20 with tax and tips. - udon was soggy / overcooked? - soup was not hot - garlic chips was raw It’s really hard to justify paying that much when I can get a bowl of ramen for less.
If you’ve ever dreamed of eating noodles in a Japanese subway station, but you don’t have time to visit Japan, here’s a great way to meet that craving! Just like a subway sandwich, you choose the ingredients at each step of creating your bowl. Delicious!
Love the food, good portion. Owner was helpful and friendly explains how the menu works. Easy to understand, pretending you are in Subway but ordering a ramen. Will definitely go back!
Genki Eki Noodle Bar, very convenience place to go, the next door of Michaels store. The concept of DIY noodle is awesome and their option for topping are vary. There is a machine that you can buy your own drink. Looks interesting to try, but when I was here, this machine not working.
Love this places, Japanese style train station. The food is very good, too. Japanese style DIY noodle bar, you can custom your own food. Also, there are oden with sauce and soup. Feel warm at winter time after I finish it.
