Really cool and interesting historical site with many information tables to let you know about the history of the location and uses of the building. Lots of open space and a beautiful view if the Harbour. I don't think there's any bathrooms though so beware of that before planning your trip put as it is about a half hour drive away from town. There are garbage cans and benches though
There is a bus stop but not sure how frequent it comes, so driving might be recommended especially off-season. Lots of interesting buildings and cannons to see. Also plenty of interpretive plaques for a self guided tour.
I had never heard about York Redoubt until a friend took me there. WOW, what an amazing place. So much history plus the scenery is beautiful, especially in the fall with all the leaves on the ground. I'll definitely be back. Worth your time.
This place is so cool. It’s honestly now one of my favourite places to walk around In Halifax. Very cool to see all the old war architecture but also a great place if you just want to go for a hike as there are several trails ! And you can go right down by the water. Usually not very many people there so can hang out by yourself and it’s pretty quiet. 10/10 recommend
I wish the map on the inside showed where everything was. Was trying to find the forts to show a friend but I got lost instead. Really cool canons and interesting history. Was curious if they still fire some of the canons off? When you find the forts you’re in the hotspot there is a lot of graffiti and a beautiful look offVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Close to the city and lots to explore at York Redoubt. There is parking right at the entrance and sometimes they allow parking within the walls as well. There are abandoned and spray painted buildings, different sized cannons, and a hiking trail. The higher areas overlook the waters and you can sometimes see boats and along the waters. Lots of history and stories behind this historic site. Only open during certain times of the year June to Labour Day.
Open area fort good for walking and taking in a self guided tour. Cannons overlooking the ocean and old building structures.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great walking trail and green space for kids and dogs. Lots of tunnels to explore and leads down to close to the water with a nice view of the ocean. The water isn't really accessible so if you do plan to go down, use caution down the steep hills and rocks.
Nice spot for a walk around with the kids. Ocean view and picnic tables close to the parking.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Very nice place to walk a dog, hangout on the rocks by the shore, walk through a gravel path to the water under the caponopy of oak trees, view from the top of the fort of lighthouse and ocean, great for pick nicks. This is definitely a local favorite!
