We got a “by donation” tour from Geordi, the resident tour guide-slash-groundskeeper and it was the best tour I’ve taken in ages. Fascinating stories, just the right amount of depth, more historic than macabre. Really enjoyable and top notch. If you are at all interested in the history of Halifax, this place should not be missed!
We kind of happened across this place, I had heard of it but didn't really realize where it was in Halifax or how cool it really was! It was so neat to walk around and spend time reading about the people who were first generation Canadians. Such a neat and odd atmosphere but stunningly beautiful.
A beautiful and peaceful place for a quiet walk among the ancient dead. Volunteers are on hand for tours by donation. A must see.
What can one say? This truly remarkable historic cemetery right in the middle of downtown Halifax, is WELL worth a visit, even if you pass it every day on your way to work, as many folks do, without giving it more than a passing glance. Has an INSANE number of very historic and interesting headstones to explore, and is also large enough for a quick "retreat" from the hustle and bustle of city life. Very well maintained in addition. We are QUITE fortunate to have such a place so well preserved, in our Fair City.
Really interesting place, lots of history here and there are people around to answer questions.
The Old Burying Ground is a historic cemetery dating back to colonial times and must be one of the oldest in the whole area. This place looks old but it's still possible to read the gravestones. There are a few nice sculptures around as well. Maintenance is overall good. Visit if you are interested in colonial history.
It's a really cool old cemetery with old headstones. I originally thought titanic victims were buried here, but they're not. Wish there was some more information with historical notes. There's a few signs, but not too much
This place is seriously steeped in history. So many more people are buried here than the headstones suggest. I recommend booking a tour and reading up on a bit since this is one of the oldest in North America
Picture-worthy attraction in downtown Halifax with a long history dating back to the city's founding in 1749. Information posters by the entrance contain interesting tidbits about the place.
Founded the same day as Halifax in 1749 this is a really interesting cemetery. There are also informational plaques for anyone wanting to learn more.
