Yellow River State Forest

Camp here at least once a year. Great backpacking! Lots of room to roam and plenty of space to camp. Highly recommend!

Best campground I have ever camped in. My family & I randomly picked Yellow River to get away from everything. My husband wanted to be close a trout stream so I called the park asked which campground was best & was very politely directed to Little Paint. A family of family decided to camp with us (next to us) & We have both been back about every weekend since. The kids love it, it's peaceful, relaxing & serine. It gets the family (or group of camping buddies/friends) close again & bonding (if you ever notice you can be sitting right next to someone & instead of talking people will text ect or playing video games) in this area you have no data, no service & no signal. It is great to get back to spending quality time with no outside interference & even better in such a breathtakingly beautiful area. So many things to do & see. No pictures or videos can do justice to the beauty of this natural wonderland. We love it & highly recommend camping here.

This place is beautiful! I used to go there as a kid, and was so happy to see it hasn't changed hardly at all! I wish they had electricity, which is the ONLY reason the place only got 4 stars... As you know what? That's easily over looked when you see this place. The little paint and big paint camp ground are very clean, Effigy Mounds is only a very few miles away. Marquette and macgregor are very close, and beautiful riverside towns. Prairie Du Chien, is just across the river, house on the rock is within easy driving distance, and spook cave is close as well. Pikes Peak is nearby as too, for those that must have electricity and, come back to yellow river for the fishing, and in spoiled wilderness! I highly recommend this place!

If you love nature this is the spot,great place to camp ,fly fishing,hiking just amazing place.

So rustic. Pit toilets, no water at campsites. But, camping on a stocked trout stream, amazing!
