Whispering Pines Resort is just 2 hours away from Mackinaw Bridge and 5 hours from Milwaukee. We enjoy 300 feet of lake frontage on beautiful Thunder Lake, bordering Hiawatha National Forest, also known as Great Lakes National Forest.

Story

Whether you are a sportsman looking for excellent fishing and hunting, a snowmobilier or bicyclist in search of great trails, or just a family looking for a quiet get away, Whispering Pines is your destination for four seasons of fun! Whispering Pines Resort is just 2 hours away from Mackinaw Bridge and 5 hours from Milwaukee. We enjoy 300 feet of lake frontage on beautiful Thunder Lake, bordering Hiawatha National Forest, also known as Great Lakes National Forest.

Our Cabins:

Whispering Pines Resort has five charming cabins with lake frontage and modern amenities. Four of the cabins have two bedrooms and sleep 4 to 6 people. Cabin 5, our largest, sleeps 8 and has a TV, fireplace and deck. With rental of any cabin, all bedding is provided (sheets, blankets, pillows). Guests are asked to bring their own bath towels. All cabins have bathrooms with showers. The kitchen in each cabin is equipped with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, coffee pot, stove, refrigerator and microwave. Cabins are heated and have a deck or screened porch and picnic table. Cabin rentals include use of the fish-cleaning house, picnic area, fire pit, barbecue grill, horseshoe pit and a boat.

Nice rustic cabin, pretty grounds. We stayed in cabin 36. It is not fancy but nicely appointed and had all the necessary things. No A/C which was fine other than limited the type of cooking as any cooking really heated it up in the kitchen and dining areas. Bed in main bedroom was pretty comfortable. Nice patio with a grill. Website advertises a Jacuzzi on site but they have not had one in 2 or 3 years. That was very disappointing as we were really looking forward to a hot soak in the cooler temperatures in the pines. Why is it still on the website?? Also office closes at 5 everyday which is not very handy. Staff is very nice though. Phone number on webpage does not work either, different phone number found in cabin after check in.
Cabin tucked away surrounded by pines , front porch was always in use, very peaceful. Inside was very cozy and wonderful. Location was terrific in either direction food, supplies, lakes and streams were all within minutes. Hawley lake and Sunrise were just a tad over an hour only because we were in no rush. We left that on the desert floor with the rest of our day to day problems. All and all the family loved it. We coming back!
Loved our stay. Staff was amazing. No problems adding an extra night. Only issue, shower was super small. Otherwise, wonderful place and very clean. Had a great time and enjoyed our experience there.
Us coming from the city with my new fiancé to spend a weekend was a nice thought, until we realized the entire town was closed the whole time. The cabin was nice and cozy and the tub...was fun...we had the right soap that foamed. I would have liked the fire to be a bit hotter but whatever.
Husbands wallet stolen out of cabin! Wallet showed up after 3 more people rented the same cabin. Was in the same spot where he had left it. Cleaning lady knew we left. Anyways after canceling all credit cards they want to ship his wallet back to us so he gives the person in the office his new credit card number to pay for the shipping and thats when we recieved a fradulant charge on his new credit card number !!! Stay away its been done many times before i susspect !!!!! Whats sad is we really liked the place . Now ill never go back or refer anyone here ever !!!!!!
Awesome place to get away. Hard to believe this place is just off hwy 260, felt like we were far in the woods by all the beautiful trees surrounding our cabin and how peaceful it was. Cabin was spacious and fully stocked with all the needs. Host was very friendly and nice.
We enjoyed the long new years weekend! Fabulous cabin! We had an easy check-in. The cabins are spaced well enough apart you feel like you're in your own little part of the woods. Quiet. Even with many other cabins rented, everyone was quiet and considerate! The snow was a perfect touch! The cabin was a bit dated, but still very functional. The kitchen had the basics. The bed was ok, but after 3 nights I was really looking forward to my own bed. The location is very convenient to restaurants, activities, etc. Very pleased with our stay! We will return!
This place lives up to it's name. The wind through the pines feels like the trees truly are whispering to you. The cabin we stayed in was perfectly spaces from our next door neighbor, and nice older couple who shared information about the local birds. Lots of quiet, no bugs to speak of except one dead spider and clean facilities. Feels a little weird as there are no pictures and the cabin is pretty bare but it is spacious and comfy! It rained while we were there and it sounded wondedful. There are facilities on the ground for weddings, in the open and one was going on while we were there. Though we could hear the music and the cheering and see some lights it was muffled and non-obtrusive. Staff was great, we got there late and they had a solution to get us into our cabin without any hassle. Also accidentally broke a glass the vs ins come with kitchens that have most everything for cooking and drinking wine and they didn't charge is for our mistake. Would stay again and love the surrounding town and area! Go out and visit the locals...they are excellent!
Excellent! The grounds are beautiful. I was worried the cabins were going to be too close but I was wrong. We still had our privacy and so much open space for the kids to run around in our "backyard." Cabin 11 was fabulous and we would absolutely rent the same cabin again! Loved that we could sit on the back porch and the kids could go down the stairs and easily access the forest
