Camel Riders Restaurant & Resort

About

Camel Riders Restaurant is a fine-dining restaurant located in the heart of the Hiawatha Forest, on the shore of Deep Lake. Deep Lake is one of four lakes that compose the infamous "Chain of Lakes" .Experience the U.P. with us, the way the Yoopers do, EH!

Story

Camel Riders Restaurant was opened in 1971. However, it was not always a restaurant. The original building was built as a family hunting lodge in 1947. Then. in the late 1950's, four additional cabins were built, creating "Lazy Acres Resort". Soon after the new cabins were built and new owners took over, and changed the original hunting lodge into a restaurant on a whim. The restaurant and resort then became "The Camel Rider's". Your hosts Frank and Sonia Ott have owned and operated Camel Riders for over 15 years. Since then, they have added another cabin, and a beautiful boat dock for water traffic.

Best dinner spot in the upper peninsula hands down! Ambiance was outstanding, some of the best service one could ask for and both of those combined cannot begin to match the quality of the food. Somebody get the chef as many local awards as possible. Bring your friends, bring your family, or just bring yourself regardless you will have an amazing time. 10/5 stars.
What a meal. After a 3 day backcountry hiking trip this meal was a perfect way finish off our accomplishment. We got lucky and they had a 7:30 availability. Reservations are highly recommended no matter the day or time. Finding the restaurant can be tricky even with GPS. Please do not let that discourage you, it is worth the find. We started our meal with a combo appetizer $14.00. The appetizer can easily serve 4 people. A mix of cheese curds, mushrooms, cauliflower, potstickers, mac-n-cheese bites, and onion rings round out this deep fried delight. For our entree we both chose the $37.00 16oz aged-seasoned ribeye. Tender, juicy, cooked to order, flavorful steak. The entree came with a cup of soup, side salad plus a choice of potato. We did the additional add on 3 piece perch $14.00 and 6 jumbo sauteed shrimp $15.00. Both were tasty. As you can see the prices are high. With that being said, the entire meal is worth it. We were very pleased with the meal. Having only dehydrated food for days we ate every last bite. Concerned about the dress code we still showed up in jeans. Not a problem at all. The lodge like setting and relaxed atmosphere welcomes anyone. The wait staff was hard working and friendly. It did not seem to take long for our food.
ALWAYS a delicious meal and great service. Every item on th menu that I've tried has been outstanding. This is one of my all time favorite restaurants anywhere! The photo below is their famous, in the snowmobiler world anyway, pork chop. Not a good trip for me if I don't eat at least once at Camel Riders!
Camel Riders is a hidden gem in the Hiawatha National Forest. Driving to this place almost feels like an episode of the Twilight Zone, meandering through the empty, quite forest and then suddenly, you find a piece of food heaven. A camping trip for me is not complete until I pay a visit to Camel Riders, it's my annual pilgrimage. A must! Be aware that Camel Riders requires a reservation.
One of the, if not, best steaks I've ever had. Such a nice hidden gem located inside the Hiawatha forest. Very small dining area so making a reservation is ideal.
A hidden gem that is worth the adventure to reach. Amazing atmosphere, friendly service, and one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. A+
If you are not familiar with the area, this place is definitely off the beaten path. That being said, it is well worth the trip. My wife and I had the Sirloin steak dinner for two. I think was a huge piece of meat and delicious. The dinner also included soup French Onion, salad, and choice of side. I had the baked potato. We had a bottle of wine, and to top it off a ice cream sundae. I would go back the next time we are in the area. The wait staff was very good.
Amazing food that’s honest and straight to the point. The entire atmosphere of the restaurant is intimate, relaxing and an experience. My girlfriend and I have gone 3 times in the past couple months and have thoroughly enjoyed every experience. Josh has waited on us each time and he only makes the experience that much better. I’ve lived, traveled and dined in many places, and I can say without uncertainty that the Sirloin for two is the best steak I’ve ever had.
Have one of the best steak dinners you ever will have by driving to the middle of the UP? You darn right will !!!! It was fantastic! ! Scenery was great . steak cooked perfect and the flavor with special seasoning was awesome. To top it off the service was great also. French onion soup was good also
Amazing food! Put off - at first - by the high prices but I ate The Best Prime Rib I've ever had! Worth the money & enough meat to fill me up the next day. Terrific service with super personable staff.
