Walla Foods – Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Artisan Bakery and cafe

Story

Ben Manea was born in Romania and raised in Israel. He emigrated to Toronto in 1999 where he met his wife Sharon, moving with her to the Okanagan in 2005.

He left a technical career to follow his passion for excellent baking and food, teaching himself old-school artisan bread baking and cooking so he could bring the flavours of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern foods to his new home in the South Okanagan.

Using only the finest natural ingredients, with no chemicals, preservatives or shortenings, Walla is a unique artisan bakery and bistro serving delicious rustic dishes for brunch and lunch. All breads and buns are fermented for 3 days allowing many who are gluten-intolerant to enjoy them! There are also take-home fine foods and a tent at the local market on Front St. every Saturday 8:30 am. - 2 pm. from May to October.

Lovely place to come and eat. Breads and pastries are very delicious. Don't expect a wide selection, and don't expect to get what you want, at times, as he does sell out of certain product. Beautiful aroma from bakery when walking through the Cannery

Empty shelves, when asked what kind of bread they have I was pointed to the shelves and baskets 'whatevers on there'. I tried to be friendly and introduced my self and asked the guys name. Even after this he was treating us like we were wasting his time. Then I asked if they have breakfast, he said we are serving lunch from 11 am and upon asking whats for lunch I was pointed out the door to a menu outside saying its on the menu. This experience and the lack of customer service is what has driven me to give this a poor rating. Whatever was on the shelf looked good however that doesn't mean you don't put in any effort into customer service.

My guy and I were there today and we did not have a good experience at this bakery shop. The shelf was almost empty, barely nothing to choose from, and the owner did not have the best attitude towards our inquiries about food he serves for the day. My boyfriend was nice to him but his attitude towards him was quite stinky the entire time. We went there because the rating was great but we both were quite disappointed after the visit. This place is not worth you time people.

My favorite place to eat in Penticton and the whole Okanagan. Great food and quality ingredients, all from scratch. Ben the baker and owner makes some of the best bread I have ever eaten. He does his bread the old world way, long fermentation which makes the bread so flavorful and easier to digest. You have to give it a try, a must in Penticton!

Best in the business. Do yourself a favor and order some simple focaccia bread. You won't be disappointed.
