Vin Santo

Quiet little nook in Middleton with cozy atmosphere and very friendly front of the house. Has the feel of a family-run neighborhood establishment. The two of us split both the appetizer of the day, a delicious smoked salmon crostini, light in texture but rich in flavor, and a seasonal butternut squash ravioli, which was nicely balanced with savory seasoning and not overpowering. We took some home to save room for what was honestly one of the best cannoli we've ever had. I think we'll be back before long!

Enjoyed our anniversary dining at this cozy restaurant. With all the Italian restaurants in the Madison area, Vin Santo really is a wonderful spot. We've each have had the opportunity to dine here and we haven't been disappointed one bit. Service was attentive but not swarming. We shared a salad prior to our meal and each enjoyed a glass of wine. Salad was crispy, and the dressing didn't overwhelm. They did run out of their specialty, but their menu doesn't disappoint. We had a wonderful dining experience and will come back again.

Take this review with a grain of salt as someone who has lived in Italy and has an idea of what each dish should taste like. When we arrived, I was surprised to find out the interior was rather old and dim. Given the prices of the restaurant, I would think there would be more of a update to the interior. We ordered a salad, a glass of wine (for my SO), and I ordered the lasagne and my SO ordered the salsiccia rossa. The wine was good. The salad was tasty, but I wasn't aware that they dressed it themselves; I should have asked for dressing on the side. The lasagne was not something I would order again though; it arrived in a baked dish versus a slice. The bottom was baked on and the ricotta was much too thick as well as the cheese being too liberal (I know I am in a minority here). The lasagne should have had more layers as well. Personally, I also think the sausage should have been minced and been a true ragu'. My boyfriend's salsiccia was okay; the sausage was good, but the pasta that was paired with it was much too thin for the heavy tomato sauce they used. The arrabiata sauce was just okay. The customer service was excellent and I thought the waitresses did a lovely job and had great attitudes. For Italian food in Madison, I'd prefer Bellini's (I haven't tried too many places, but that's the only place I've been that seems to have the flavors right on their ragu').

Really good Italian in a spot you may miss if you aren't looking for it. Smaller wine list than some Italian restaurants but the choices didn't disappoint. Very busy on Saturday night when we came in but staff was attentive and got us a table close to our reservation time. Wife ordered the ravioli special which was excellent.

This place is wonderful! All of our meals turned out amazing, and the bruchetta was great. The waitstaff was very knowledgeable and never let a glass get empty. The owner (I think) even heard a spoon fall of the table and had the waitress bring another set. And the bread pudding is to die for! Will definitely be coming back.
