The Free House Pub features an extensive local beer selection and a traditional American menu created with the finest locally sourced ingredients.

Story

The Free House Pub is located in the historic American Hotel building in downtown Middleton.
We feature 16 draft lines serving a wide spectrum of local and seasonal craft beers, one of the widest arrays of whiskies in the Madison area, a strong wine list and an excellent variety of craft cocktails.

Our traditional American menu consists of favorites like the buffalo chicken wrap, homemade jalapeno poppers, the prime rib melt and a variety of burgers. We are committed to supporting the local economy, and all of our items are carefully crafted using ingredients from local vendors.

The Free House Pub is comprised of three distinct but attached buildings. The historic American Hotel building and the back buildings have been completely renovated while a new bar building was erected to connect the two. We have a beautiful outdoor patio perfect for beautiful days with your friends and family.

Elevated bar food in a cozy setting. Seating options in the bar area, the dining room and in a gorgeous outdoor courtyard. Extremely impressed with the exterior crunch on my avocado BLT, but the overcooked bacon imparted a bitter taste to my sandwich. Loved my perfectly prepared sweet potato fries. My server seemed rushed, but I was pleased with the overall pace of the meal.

Great food and fantastic beer menu with over ten local beers. I tried getting through them 🤤. The food is very good if you have space after all the beer. The service couldn't have been better either. Great place. The pic is my nacho starter.

Downtown Middleton is a charming small town and an equally charming restaurant. We came after the lunch rush and had our choice of seating. It was a perfect day to eat outside. Days like this make me rethink living in California or moving to Madison. The service was spot on and we quickly ordered our food and drinks. We started with the fried cheese curds. Need to start a blog to taste all the fried cheese curds in Wisconsin. These were yummy and gone quickly. They were more chewy then I thought it would be. I had the buffalo chicken salad... it was quite the heaping pile of greens sprinkled with the buffalo chicken. I felt obliged to dump both ramekins of dressing on my salad but should only used one. I don't know that the iced tea was fresh brewed ... it tasted a little bit like a powder tea. But overall, a gorgeous day to be eating outside at the Free House.

Great cozy place for lunch or dinner. It can get busy, especially for outdoor seating, so get here slightly early. Great indoor, outdoor, and bar seating. Two separate bars with two separate outdoor areas. The wait staff has always been appropriately attentive, with your drink not being empty for long. The food is very good, though their menu is on the smaller side. The pretzels were soft on the inside and a nice crunch on the outside. The cheese spread is so good, and though I don't like mustard, my mother said they were awesome. I had the strawberry walnut salad with bacon added, and would order it again for a light summer meal. My mother had the shrimp tacos (and I had to taste) and they were seasoned so good she said she would order them again in a heartbeat. The cocktails are very good, and their beer and whiskey selection is amazing. The only problem that can arise is parking, as it is only on the street. Would come back, and have came back.
