Great school! As a high school student I am given everything needed to succeed! Teachers are caring and our community is awesome! 13/10
We love this school. Teachers are creative and energized, curriculum is challenging, administration takes seriously their duty of care, the kids’ spiritual life is nurtured, and conflict is dealt with quickly through restorative not retributive justice practices. Grateful this school exists and that teachers and employees sacrifice potential higher pay grades to do this work.
The neighbourhood is small and there will always be traffic going in and out of the school. I get that. What's not ok is the parents of students berating the residents for trying to get home after a long work day when they are the ones actively parking in the middle of the street.nnMy family has lived in the same house for 20+ years and in the recent years we've seen a spike in rude and entitled drivers parking where they shouldn't and arguing and being abrasive about it when confronted. Literally every one of my family members and neighbours has had at least one encounter every year. One lady acknowledged that she was in the wrong and moved her car she was literally at the bottom of the hill blocking the alley, but not even a minute later she moved right back to her original spot!nnWe have contacted the school, talked to the traffic guards staff/teachers?, and still it happens. This is honestly the last place I want to address this issue. Once or twice a year is whatever, but on a monthly or even weekly basis? My family is tired of it.nnThere's a traffic map on your website literally highlighting where you can park, but it seems that some people choose to ignore it. Here's the thing: we literally don't care where you park, as long as it's not blocking the road and you're respectful of the people who do live here.nnI understand that the school doesn't have control over the actions of the parents, but please understand that we are frustrated as well. Some of the parents are apologetic, but some of these parents sure don't act Christian-like, what with the way one of them swore at my sister just today. All I'm asking is use some of that tuition money to enforce traffic rules, or at the very least send a monthly reminder to these parents.
I've been in the VCS community for around a decade now, and it pains me to say how it has only been downhill. I recall how excited everyone was about the new building; however, looking back, even the older one was better. Our lockers are smaller than most backpacks and cant even fit textbooks. We don't have an auditorium, nor a cafeteria which you would expect from a brand new school. The school only knows how to accept new children without limits, leading to the school bursting from the seams. Small office rooms have had to be turned into classrooms, and a large portion of the lobby has been. Many electives are cancelled because of a lack of classroom space. The library in the old building was much better: it had computer desks and a more extensive library space. I love this school, don't get me wrong, but I wish they would think about their current students rather than accept as many students as they can.
Vancouver Christian school is a very nice and welcoming school. The classrooms are okay, sometimes a bit small, the lockers are definitely small, but I don't really mind that, just bring a smaller back pack. The school is okay with all their christian studies, and they welcome people of any culture to study Christianity with them. You can give your opinion pretty freely, and they won't punish you if you don't agree with some parts of Christianity.nnThe school does not respect the students decisions and choices. They put people we want in our class in another class, and people we don't like as much in our class. They make us write a list, too. I understand that they want us to hang out with people we don't get along with, but seriously? They promise us one person that we want in our class, but guess what? we get none of them.nnThis school does not solve conflicts in the best way. Before they gather enough evidence, they jump to accusations, and then the people who haven't done anything wrong get in trouble. The people who blamed others don't get in trouble, and somehow save their face. The thing is, I love this school, and as much as i love it, I want to be able to give it a good review, but I can't when there are many problems.nnNext, the school's sports program is not good either. All the sports start late into the year and we only get around 1 month of practice before any tournament. The school's main sport is volleyball, but we aren't super good. It also isn't the most popular sport at school. Some sports have many people joining, but we lack resources to train the players. Overall, the sports program is a mess. They also have trouble maintaining the gym floor, and lighting is terrible if your thinking of playing specifically badminton.nnThe thing I love about this school though, is the fact that the kids are nice. The community is great, and friends are easy enough to make. The teachers are overall decent, but there are some problems with solving conflicts. They also have a decent variety of sports, which is good. The community doesn't have many problems. The students don't have any bullying problems, drug problems, or any thing of that sort, so our school is safe. We also try our best to welcome the new kids. It may take a few days, but it'll be alright.nnI hope you took the time to look at this, and take all of this into consideration. Thank you.
