super awful experience. I was followed around by security and secret shoppers the entire time my friend and I were there. I was one of four people at the check out and every single staff member was standing directly behind me staring at my screen. I had a lot of items, and the staring was making me uncomfortable, so I told one employee off who was hovering quite obviously. He proceeded to be extremely snarky, and when we left he called me an idiot after buying almost $200 worth of clothes. If you are going to profile me so obviously, I will say something about it. I paid for every single item, and was treated like I was going to steal for absolutely no reason. extremely unprofessional, and lowkey racist. do not shop here, there are way better thrift stores with way better prices, and you can shop and pay in peace without being followed and harassed by staff.
A large selection of thrift clothing with separate sections for men and women.nThe store has two floors and is always bustling with people.nThere’s also a book section for those looking for secondhand reads.nWhile some items aren’t in the best condition, there are still plenty of great finds.nThey offer sales and exclusive deals for members—and the membership is free!nfriendly and helpful staff
Good selection, fair prices mostly, and super friendly and positive staff.nnI really appreciate having this gem.of a store in neighbourhood.nnAlways find something super nifty when I pop in. :
I was at a Value Village Boutique in Vancouver last summer and I LOVED it. It really lived up to the boutique styling. This year, not so much. There were several Shein pieces and lots of things from Reitmans and similar stores. Granted, it's clean and nicely styled and easier to pick through than a regular Value Village but I was disappointed by the selection of items this year. UPDATE in 2025. It remains stocked with cheap brands like Shein and some brands like Zara are similarly priced to actual Zara stores with sales. But it's clean, fun to pick through, and the staff is kind.
Maison Martin Margiela sweater vest, size M, for $12.99. I nearly creamed my jeans. The only other times I saw such a lopsided good deal were a pair of John Lobb × Paul Smith oxford brogues size 7; too small for me for something like $33 at the Downtown Boutique, and a pair of Brunello Cucinelli grey flannel wool trousers size 38—way too big for me for something like $24 at a mainline Value Village. Only this time the size M sweater vest was perfect!nnI would like to give this Value Village Boutique five stars, but so many of the prices are way above what they should be. I remember when button shirts—casual and business—used to cost $5.99 to $6.99, not $18.50, and it’s indiscriminate pricing: H&M and ZARA? $18.50. Tommy Hilfiger? $18.50. Club Monaco? $18.50 Ralph Lauren? $18.50 ETON? $18.50. And why do button shirts cost way more than wool knit sweaters? Wool and cashmere blend jumpers are around $12, which is wonderful, but a shirt is $6-$7 more than a knit sweater? That doesn’t square. Socks used to cost $1.99 to $2.99, but now average $4.99 and as high as $5.99 for some thick woollen variety. I don’t mind paying that price for possibly unworn wool socks, but not low-cotton content/synthetic blend socks. All men’s shoes cost $25 to $35, and really, unless it’s designer, or from specialty shoemakers like Allen Edmonds, Church’s, Bally, Ferragamo, etc. or anything made in Italy, or vintage Eaton’s or Woodward’s made in England, nothing is worth $25 to $35. While ties, I understand, may seem archaic and unfashionable, I still love me a good vintage tie; they used to cost $5 or less, and the two ties I wanted to buy I didn’t: a vintage made in UK rust-brown/orange wool/linen blend was $13, and a brown patterned 100% wool Ralph Lauren tie for ~$8.49... Considering their quality and condition, I suppose they still cost way less than retail price, but it doesn’t feel like I’m getting a deal. In fact, I feel kind of cheated out of a cheaper price. Since this is Value Village Boutique, prices are all higher than regular Value Village prices.nnWorth a side quest when I’m in downtown, but it’s a big time investment to look for worthwhile deals.
