Si Parla Italiano
A Taste of Italy in Royal Oak
Awarded "Best Italian Restaurant in Oakland County" from Metro Times Magazine
Named One of Three Restaurants in the Detroit/ Detroit Metro Area for Truly Authentic Italian Food by the Italian Consulate
A Italian -inspired sensation that has become a staple of Royal Oak Dining on the corner of Fifth and Washington in Downtown Royal Oak. Trattoria Da Luigi offers much more than exquisite Italian dining, as their customers are immersed into an entire Italian experience upon walking through the doors.
The signature of Trattoria Da Luigi, to be better known as Da Luigi’s, is unique to Italian culture as the menu gleams with history behind all of the dishes featured. From traditional Italian cuisine to “true” pizza from the rare wood-burning oven, DaLuigi’s prepares rustic specialties that customers cannot cook at home. It is emphasized that “spaghetti and meatballs” will not be among their entrées!
Luigi Cutraro, the owner and Luigi’s, is the heart and hard work behind this entire experience. Royal Oak is not a new home for Cutraro’s business, as he was the successful owner of the celebrated Sangria and The Sky Club for 14 years. Cutraro’s work has been a major boost for the city, hence his title of “Businessman of the Year” given by Royal Oak’s Chamber of Commerce in 2009. The same year, the Italian government acknowledged Cutraro’s esteemed dedication, as he was given the distinguished “Cavaliere” honor (equivalent to being knighted in English culture).
When asked to summarize his efforts with Luigi’s, Cutraro exclaimed, “Luigi’s is a small place with a moderately priced plates, yet superior food. I am excited because I won’t just be the owner, I will be a customer, too. It’s impossible for me to choose a favorite dish, just as it’s impossible for me to choose my favorite son! I love them all. I just ask one favor of my customers, to be daring and risky. Please be willing to try something new, as this menu has been built upon thousands of years of eating. Trust me on this one!”
A full bar showcasing wine with a heavy Sicilian influence will also be available to customers. The old Tuscan, farmhouse theme resonates throughout the restaurant bringing a comfort similar to that of being surrounded by family. The same Italian experience that Cutraro has found so special his entire life.
