Top of the Hill Bakery

Recently I ordered a cake for my Mother’s retirement from Top of the Hill bakery situated in Orleans, Ottawa. Along with my wife, I spent many hours designing the cake, the individual details that would make this a standout piece at her party, than meet with the owner of the bakery, Mr. Jeff, provided him with exact details of what is to be on the cake, had him agree that the design is appropriate and more importantly accomplishable, sent him a follow up e-mail to ensure that everything was understood by him and his staff, later in the week made a follow up phone call also to ensure that everything is on track and after I did all this, the result was: Absolutely horrible, astonishingly horrible, I was flabbergasted. I do need to add that this cake, 500$ worth was ordered well in advance and this was not a time pressure sensitive issue. What was present to me upon arrival at the bakery did not in any way shape or form reflect what was ordered and comprehensively discussed with the owner. I will add for completeness, that I was absolutely livid with the owner and his response was to threaten me with Police action if I did not exit his bakery immediately, due to vivid expression of my disappointment. Things did get ugly. He did eventually admit to my wife, who was much calmer than me, this was for my Mom, so my emotions run high, that he “screwed it up”. Later he also admitted that he had several other cakes (weeding) to do, so what can be extrapolated from this remark is that my $500 was not worth his time or effort. I must also add that Mr. Jeff was a former acquaintance of mine, so his extremely poor engagement in this project was an extreme disappointment to me. I will definitely not be using or recommending his services anymore and it appears to me that he is much more proficient doing “show off cakes” for advertising purposes than paying much attention to the individual client request(s). If Mr. Jeff takes issue with any off the above, a full paper trial of evidence/fact is preserved.

Good bakery. Even their simple things like cookies are top tier.

Beautiful cakes and pastries of all varieties. I recommend the white chocolate cranberry cheesecake.

Have been going to this shop since it opened. Not short of amazing from the breads, cookies and cakes.
