About

An internationally renowned fourth-generation pâtissier, Thomas Haas confections are available at his two cafés in North Vancouver and Kitsilano and select retailers.

Story

An internationally renowned, fourth-generation pâtissier, Thomas Haas gained experience in Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe and North America before settling in Vancouver and opening his own namesake chocolaterie, patisserie and café in 2005. Vancouver Magazine’s Pastry Chef of the Year in 2011, ’13, ’14 ’15 and '16 and Best Bakery in 2017, Thomas Haas uses only the finest raw ingredients sourced both locally and from around the globe and, in keeping with family custom, eschews the notion of assembly lines and mass production techniques, instead trusting in a talented team of pastry chefs and chocolatiers whose finesse and sensitivity is lovingly expressed in every hand-spun confection.

Thomas Haas products are exclusively available at both his Kitsilano and North Vancouver cafés as well as select leading hotels, retailers and restaurants across North America.

The best croissant and cake I have had in Van! Try the almond croissant and the Black Forest cake, so so good! Don’t miss their chocolate as well! Go early! One day I arrived at 2pm, the shelf’s almost empty! Super nice staffs! So wonderful to have a croissant and a cup of hot chocolate on weekend at their outdoor mini garden. Enjoy.
Chocolate cake is the best!!! It has a very rich flavor and is very elegant. There are many varieties and breads to choose from. The chocolates can be taken home so you can take them home . This is the best chocolate store in Vancouver that I have visited
My only complaint is the server - there are so many sweets that I couldn’t see any savoury items so I asked and he said “No, sorry only sweets!” I wasn’t sure he understood so I said “ No sandwiches, quiche or anything not sweet?” He shook his head no sorry. But upon inspection I did find about 5 items that were savoury and when I went back in line to order one I told the young man - “ you do have savoury items “and pointed to them , he just looked at me and smiled which I took offensively! Not sure if he didn’t understand but I felt I was pretty clear when I ordered second time on line. If he doesn’t understand the word savoury when a customer asks he should check with a fellow staff member what savoury means! Nice presentation, not quite worth the high prices but then what is these days! Coffee strong, small cup , mostly foam. Breakfast croissant a bit chintzy on the topping but adequate. Cheesecake beautiful & delicious.
So busy, and for good reason. Quality pastries with rich aroma and flavours. Closet to the park. A great place to visit on your walk from Lonsdale.
Went for the hot coco festival and got the pistachio flavour with a cherry financier. It was tasty and would recommend! I did order it with an espresso shot but I didnt taste the coffee at all. The “classic” mont blanc… um… like had an eggnog whip on the inside with a berry filling on a hard biscuit… the chestnut topping was a super thin layer and almost flavourless… not at all a classic at all… The cafe was packed inside, no one abides by the 6 person limit. There is outdoor heated seating. As others have said, a bit pricey and not worth the hype for the service and ambience, but worth a visit.
One of the best pastries and coffees you can get in the area. Very unique design with caring staff, we got Mochas and Espresso which is my favorite in this place.
I happened upon this place while on a walk. Lucky me. Decadent, specialty chocolates and pastries, at specialty prices. So far I've eaten 2 of the little chocolates. They were worth the price & time I took to nibble on & savour them.
Wow. Expensive but very very delicious. My favourite was the hazelnut praline, but the pumpkin pie was a very close second. Both weren't sickening sweet. They had a nice size also desserts that are too big make you bored of them. Hazelnut praline had a very nice texture. The cream wasn't too heavy and you really can't go wrong with a hazelnut chocolate combo. I especially like the wafer base. Best pumpkin pie I've every had. The cream on top isn't sweet at all, which complements the generously spiced filling. The pie has a pastry crust, which is so good I would totally eat it just on its own. The other desserts were great as well! The Chocolate souffle was moist and rich in flavour. Absolutely heavenly for any chocolate lover! The almond mascarpone tasted like a tiramisu minus the chocolate. Tbh I didn't taste the almond. It was by no means bad. The cake was moist and the mascarpone was light and delicious. Pumpkin spice latte went great with the sweet cakes. The dark chocolate passionfruit cake was ordered by a friend and it looked delicious. Overall, pricey but very decadent desserts. You get what you pay for here. 1000% recommend!
Thomas Haas Fine Chocolates And Patisserie is my favorite chocolate shop. The chocolate is delicious and the service is fast and excellent. Today, I picked up a Manjari Chocolate Cake for a small get-together. The cake was the most delicious cake I have ever tasted! Previously, I felt that Thomas Haas has several weaknesses. Firstly, the parking is difficult - one has to park and reverse from the parking spots carefully. There is very little room to maneuver. However, I am willing to overlook this fact because it is SUCH a nice chocolate shop and because it is simply something that makes me grin, like Austen Powers making a three-point turn with the luggage cart in the movie. Likewise, I thought for a long time that Thomas Haas at North Vancouver had no bathroom. Today, I noticed that there is, in fact, one unisex bathroom at the left side of the shop. Please take a look at the attached photo of the Manjari Chocolate Cake because it was world-class!
I was eating chocolate soufflé and saw this. I used to like their pastries so much, but this kind of mistake was very disappointing and shouldn’t be happened. It has casted a shadow on my last day of 2022. Hope you guys could do better in 2023. Happy new year
