Unassuming little bakery window that’s easy to miss in the industrial area. Having read the reviews, I walked down on my lunch break to check it out. The selection wasn’t too big I showed up half an hour before they closed but the pecan sticky bun was amazing and had a delicious caramel-y taste!! Can’t wait to go back soon to try other things! Note: I’ve been back twice since the initial review and everything I’ve tried so far has been amazing!
Tried double baked almond croissant taste was fair. But thankfully mine had way too much almond filling inside and another layer on top. Can't taste any croissant at all. Felt like eating softened marzipan with butter.
Am I in bakery heaven? First Bad Dog Bread, then Saboos, with Olives On Tap to get some proper oils/vinegars for the bread, now I find Lift Bakery. *This is the production bakery on Copping St ie not the cafe on Lonsdale Ave.. Called ahead as we were going later in the day, and the very nice Debra offered to put aside anything for me. We went for croissants and the Country Sourdough loaf. There is room for a few cars in front of the store but also street parking. This place is packed with goodies so check out the menu before you go. For the holidays they still have Christmas stollen and fruitcake. They also sell other items such as jams, coffee beans, and from the Hobbyist in Tofino handcrafted candles and soaps. When I visited, they also had some fridged items such as chicken pate from Pickles' Pantry in Cowichan Valley. Back to our purchases. We toasted the Butter Croissants the next day. From the store they are crisp but toasted they were less, so that would be personal preference. They certainly smelled of butter just like the name. Great butter flavour. The interior was softer toasted so, again, personal preference. With some homemade marmalade it was delicious. As you can buy coffee from Lift, you could enjoy that over on the Spirit Trail just south of the bakery. Now the Country Sourdough loaf. The smell was uplifting pun intended. A very nice crust and the interior was mochi-like. It could stretch a bit before it would break. Other sourdough bread I've had teared more than stretched. Interestingly, the texture of Lift's is similar to the Sangak bread from Afra bakery close by. I was amazed to learn that Sangak bread is also sourdough, so maybe there is a similarity in how both are made? Lift's was so good just on it's own but with butter the combined taste was super. We will definitely come back to Lift to try their other products. Daniel
My family enjoyed a fresh-out-of-the-oven cheese and onion scone and brownie. Served by friendly staff who offered my pooch a tasty treat. I love the drive-up counter service. Very glad I found you. Will be back for more treats.
I love you guys so much but lots of disappointment this time. My all time favorite double-baked almond croissant had no filling at all, was stiff as if it was baked two days ago. And I was looking forward to this Friday treat since Tuesday! 1 star for the croissant experience + 2 out of love because I'll give you another shot soon.
No vegetarian sandwich options. Nice staff and a fun stop on an otherwise empty strip, but be warned, and I quote the person at the window, “everything has meat in it”. My daughter and I did enjoy the FOUR DOLLAR cookie, though.
The brownies are to die for!!!! Just a hole in the wall, but oh so friendly and delicious. They now have a takeout window so you can get your fix even quicker Lovely pair of trees to cool off and enjoy your treats under too!
Very slow, never get service when there's people standing around. Sandwich was less then average. Queensdale is much better choice. Wouldn't recommend,
OMG! Best Sausage Rolls in the Lower Mainland if not BC, wait no, maybe Western Canada. The pastry and flavours dance on your tongue and go down real nice. Give them a try, you won’t be disappointed! BTW…..the rest of their baked goods are great too!…oh and staff, yup they’re wonderful as well!
We are pastry obsessed and have tried every bakery. Lift gets our vote for the very best croissant. Everything they make is exquisite actually. This location isn’t fancy, it’s not a cafe. But the quality is superb. Grab a pastry and walk the Spirit Trail!
