So my daughter Leila and I are waking up Christmas morning at my sister Rebecca’s, so I was given the task of procuring more ornaments for her Christmas tree. She wanted to use traditional colours, and include bears in her decorations. I wasn’t with Jessica, so I had to ask another expert at my disposal - Mum.nnWell, mum had a hidden gem stored away for this kind of visit. And it was the Thrift Store on Overlea. First things first, this is an old school thrift store. It’s a little disorganized, and a little jumbled, but in a good way. It means they get lots of inventory and lots of turnover!nnWe walked in ready to shop, and immediately found the Christmas section front and centre. We searched their two big shelves and managed to find over a dozen items for Rebecca’s tree. I ALSO found a box of twenty Christmas cards with lovely gold seals and three sealed wrapping papers for excellent prices. They even had artificial trees for sale at the back!nnI had to stop myself from buying more clothes, and mum was thwarted by the wrong size on a pair of designer boots. We tested our lights at their courtesy electricity station, and I even excused myself to use their clean and accessible washroom.nnThis was a fun little trip with mum. I ended up with close to 20 items for $60 average $3/item. That’s not bad, and unlike other thrift stores, the money goes back into the community. If you’re a bargain treasure hunter like us, definitely check it out!

I’ve never been to one of these stores, but I decided to donate my mother’s television. Having never donated anything directly to a thrift store before, I wasn’t sure how to do it. It was a sad occasion for me. The staff member at the back of the store gruffly said “ don’t you see where the other cars are parked? Just park like them.“ when my donation was received the same staff member said “do you need a coupon?” I asked what that was. He just abruptly put a coupon in my hand and walked away. In life, you never know what a stranger is going through. How hard is it to just be kind?

I would appreciate if the store would add more mirrors where the change room used to be. I see women and men having to crowd the one big mirror. I don’t like sharing a mirror with other people. If I am going try a jacket on I don’t want someone standing right behind me hurrying me.nnAlso, they need to purchase more carts and baskets. There is never any available carts to use when entering
