The Rose & Thistle

This is such an awesome spot! The food is phenomenal - best fish and chips in Brantford! - and the owners are the loveliest people. They have a great selection of meat pies, Yorkshire puddings, and authentic English fare. There’s such a great, hometown pub type of atmosphere where they make you feel so welcome and appreciated, and we absolutely love supporting such a great business.

Mmmm to everything I have had there so far. Plowmans meal was a delight. The tacos are so light and flavorful!

I had the fish & chips here last week and it was quite literally the worst meal I'd ever eaten out. The batter on the fish was soggy beyond belief - soggier than I thought possible - and many of the fries were still raw. Also on the plate was an obscene amount of peas that didn't taste fresh but were the best part of the meal. My friend got the chicken strips and caesar salad. The former burnt to a crisp and the latter swimming in sauce. My server was great but I won't be back.

Just had lunch for the first time in this lovely little pub and was honestly amazed. Had a beef wrap with sautéed peppers and onions and a bottle of MGD. The wrap and fries came out within 10 minutes and we're both perfectly cooked. I am a chef by trade and this is the first time I've posted a review. I was that impressed. To put the experience over the top, they had live music to enjoy during my meal. A 3 piece acoustic group was the perfect fit to add to the atmosphere. When I got my bill it was $11.30. No, that's not a typo. Wrap and fries for $6. Domestic bottles for $4. I've been in the restaurant business for nearly 20 years and honestly, have never seen such value for the quality. I not only recommend the Rose and Thistle, but insist that anyone in the Brantford area check this place out. 6 out of 5!

I had my 50th birthday party here which was over 25 people. The service was on spot on, food was hot and delicious and most important beer was cold all night for the entire group. It was karaoke night which gave it a homey atmosphere. Thanks to Phil and Audrey who made it a perfect 50th!!
