"More Great Jazz than anywhere else, all the time!"

Story

From humble beginnings, The Rex Hotel Jazz & Blues Bar has grown into a musical mecca presenting 19 shows per week.
Since the late '80s, the Rex has been at the forefront of Toronto's thriving local jazz scene. The casual atmosphere, eclectic mix of retro-chic decor, and an exciting variety of draught beer combine to make The Rex feel like a second home.

The food, drinks, and music were great! After my friend’s play that they put on, we grabbed a couple celebratory drinks here with some nachos. We stayed, laughed, drank and enjoyed each other’s company for hours. The staff are really nice, and the music was so enjoyable to listen to. A jazzy cool vibe. Definitely coming again. Also, ORDER THE DEAR PRUDENCE COCKTAIL!
Its the only place in Toronto I like being. Such a cozy inviting place to be. The bar tenders always treat you like a friend, the music is always great, the food is good. My wife and I stayed in the hotel rooms like 15 years ago before we got married. The rooms are old and nothing special...and yet they are something special. The building, the history. All of it is awesome. Go, have some drinks and food and enjoy the music, just forget about the BS outside for a while.
Toronto's enduring temple to jazz and blues authenticity. The Rex commands respect for its unwavering commitment to live music—the programming demonstrates genuine curatorial vision, and the house band executes with disciplined proficiency.nnThe room itself possesses an ineffable quality—dim, intimate, alive with the presence of serious musicians and attentive listeners. Service staff move with practiced ease through the intimate space, maintaining hospitality without intrusion.nnWhere the experience occasionally fragments is in the peripheral elements: the food service feels ancillary rather than integrated, and the occasional technical inconsistencies in sound reinforcement interrupt the narrative flow. These are minor dissonances in an otherwise compelling artistic statement.nnNevertheless, The Rex remains a vital cultural institution—a space where commercial considerations yield precedence to artistic integrity, where the music remains sovereign. Essential for those who understand that true nightlife transcends mere entertainment.
Great location for accommodation in the city of Toronto. Very affordable with a short walk from a nearby Metro Station to link easily to the Toronto Union Station. The bar has regular live music which is great for people wanting to enjoy local Toronto musicians, would recommend for one to two nights stay.
A friend and I stayed in one of the rooms without a bathroom. There was a tiny 2 piece bathroom across the hall, which was ok. The bathroom with a large shower was at the end of the hall. It was clean with shampoo, conditioner and bodywash provided. No towels. The rooms are tiny, with a double bed, a window A/C unit, a sink & a 24 inch TV high up in the corner. It was a 3rd floor walk up. No elevators. Carry your own luggage. My friend has a bad leg. So, the hotel clerk at the front desk carried his suitcase up for him. Very kind young woman. If you're planning on just sleeping here, it's a good deal. Just below is The Rex bar and restaurant. They did serve breakfast but we didn't eat there. Quiet, clean, affordable, good location but I prefer a private bathroom.
