The Co-operators - South Trail Insurance

I've insured with cooperators for 11 years - this year they called me a couple weeks ago to review my policy before renewal. They were letting me know it's going up in $ again. I discovered that they had me down as having an ADT alarm - I've Never had one Nor said I did! The owner came to my house 8 years ago when I questioned an increase during renewal. I recall him saying he would give me an alarm discount for having my Doberman. I had NO idea he documented to underwriter saying I have ADT. Had I had a disaster such as fire this could have voided my policy - he wouldn't have to pay out and I would have lost everything ! You know why they would never be able to produce documentation from ADT (which insurane company's are supposed to get from client who claim this discount) because I NEVER said I did - why would anyone DO that. Clearly THAT voids your insurace in the event of a fire. I found this very distressing . To this the office manager just said ohh we would have taken care if you. I said based on what ?? Your 'promise'? Even though she agreed that that could void my coverage in an event, apparently they "would have helped me." I also discovered that even though I reported building a garage and putting in a wood burning stove 4 years ago - the stove was not on my policy. Again I said what if there was a fire from my stove?? I wouldn't be covered!! She again reminded me how they would have taken care of me. The golden promise. I said I was very upset as I haven't been covered for years while they gladly took my money, I was going to look around . Her response was "good luck finding someone who will insure a home business" , with a smirk in her voice. (Nice) Yes she thought she could charge and do what ever, as she is correct it's hard to find insurer for home business. INTACT however does. Not only do I have much better in coverage and dramatically smaller deductible, I pay 35% less (saving me $1800 per year) and this is BEFORE they gave me another big renewal increase! Plus I'm actually COVERED, no fake ADT to void my policy and my wood stove safely documented. Thank You INTACT! BE WARNED - Do NOT insure with THIS agency in Calgary South Trail Crossing. I don't know if it's fair to generalize them as representing all cooperators. These agencies are franchised, but this one is despicable! Oh also they charged me a cancellation fee. When I asked them to wave it considering the situation. She was quick to say that was impossible it's all set up in the system. (I guess Rules are rules after all) But of course if I lost my home over this last 8 years and discovered I wasn't covered...... they of course would break those rules and "promise they would have taken care of me" If you want to pay through the nose and have coverage based on a hope on a wing and a prayer that when your policy is denied these good people will pull it out of there own pocket - this is the place for you. "I promise!" Oh and BTW Donna, both those conversations have been recorded🤓

I've been a client for 18+ years and won't deal with anyone else for my Insurance needs. Highly recommend!
