My husband and I stayed with our son who was returning to Middlebury College as a sophomore in early Sept 2022. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Chipman Inn which is beautiful--our room had a lovely 4 poster bed. We started each morning with fresh fruit and yogurt, followed by a delicious meal cooked by the owner Chris Bullock, which was different every morning. I had the best French toast with maple syrup, scrambled eggs and bacon one morning and wonderful, fluffy blueberry pancakes the next! Chris worked in the hospitality industry for over 20 years before he returned to Ripton to run the Chipman Inn and he is the ultimate gracious, warm host. We enjoyed chatting to Chris every night of our stay, after we returned from dinner. The Inn is located in Ripton, which is a very pretty part of Vermont and is only an easy 15 minute drive to Middlebury College. The Inn is about a 5 minute to the Robert Frost Trail which is so pleasant and dotted with Frost's poems along the easy trail. Middlebury' College's Snow Ball snowfield is also very close by. I can't recommend the Chipman Inn enough. Many thanks to Chris a wonderful stay.
If I could give this place 10 stars I would. Worth EVERY penny. Beautiful location, near a bunch of hiking spots. The breakfast is outstanding and included with your stay. Chris, the owner, makes everything from scratch. This place is charming, cozy, and romantic. Great for ski season, college families, etc. personally, I am a thru hiker and they picked me up from the trail, drove me to my resupply, took me to get lunch, and had laundry accommodations all included in my nightly stay. I have never experienced a place so charming and down to earth. Best hospitality. Chris has been in the NYC hotel business for years before moving here and taking over the family business. He and his staff do an outstanding job. Do NOT pass this up.
Beautiful location, delicious breakfast and thank you to Chris Bullock for being such a gracious host!Rooms: 5/5
Loved this B&B. Chris was a wonderful host. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. Common areas were inviting. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely return.
Nice comfy spacious rooms. We had own own 3-room suite with its own sitting area. Super clean. New mattresses and many renovations. The breakfasts were delicious and large enough to keep us going almost until dinner. Chris, Joan, and their staff were so nice to us. We felt like family. An historic building with modern amenities.
A beautiful place with a beautiful environment full of history and natural beauty. the host is a very kind person always ready to help. If you are not a spoiled person, but you know how to appreciate the past and the effort, then this is an ideal place for a vacation and a brief journey through time in the past. By the fact that your morning starts with a song of birds and the sound of riverbed while breathing fresh air with full lungs, this place deserves the 6 stars .... I hope that the road will lead me there again....I highly recommend Chipman Inn!
Every time we go to the Ripton Community Coffeehouse, we make it a weekend and stay at the Chipman. It feels like a cozy home away from home. Chris is a wonderful and conversational host and we relax by the fire and imagine Robert Frost stopping by woods in the 1930s. It's a gem.
Cross Country Skier magazine gear testers stayed at Chipman Inn in March, and it was absolutely fantastic. The owner, Chris, may actually be the nicest guy in the world, right up there with Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross. He and Melanie were awesome to talk to, made some really great food those pies could easily win contests, they went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we were comfortable. If there was a sixth star for extra-special occasions, I would rate Chipman Inn six out of five.
I strongly recommend the Chipman Inn. Our group of five stayed at the Inn in late May, during the Middlebury graduation. Chris and Joan, the owners son and mother, respectively are welcoming and accommodating hosts. They offer dinner, and when one large group had their plans change suddenly, and needed a place to eat the evening before graduation, when every restaurant is booked they managed to accommodate them. When we thought we were going to have to leave particularly early, they were ready to get up with us and make us a special breakfast. Our rooms were extremely comfortable, but we found ourselves spending time in the common areas, where there was always tea or coffee and, on one cool evening, a nice fire. While it was comfortable to take a computer and work on a couch, it was even more pleasant to set the computer aside and have an interesting conversation with one of the many interesting guests or with Chris or Joan. We really had a wonderful stay, and my only regret is that Chris and Joan opened the Inn as our Middlebury student was graduating! I would have stayed with them every visit.
My friend and I were hiking the Long Trail and made it to the Chipman Inn at around 9:00. I have never stayed at a Bed and Breakfast, but Christopher set the bar incredibly high. By the time we arrived, we had missed dinner. Christopher was gracious enough to drive my friend and I to the next town to get something to eat. There was a multitude of interesting books to read and the room had every accommodation imaginable. The breakfast the next morning was delicious and I didn't feel rushed at all. This Bed and Breakfast went above and beyond to make us feel at home, and they definitely accomplished that.
