The Bread Essentials

About

For the Passionate Amateurs of Good Bread: find everything you need from Tools and Ingredients to workshops that will show you how easy it can be!

Story

The story begins with the owner Josée who has more then 20 years of experience has a seasoned business manager for American Companies while cultivating for the past 10 years her passion for making bread and learning the art with French Bakers in Montreal. While learning, she stumbled upon this fantastic French Baker and his wife with whom a strong connection developed over time. After many months of discussions, it was agreed that Josée would continue their business and to move it to Toronto.

In recent years Josée developed a gluten allergy and struggled to find quality and tasteful bakery and pastry products, a motivation to work at improving current offering. Don't be surprised to see some ingredients, products and workshops addressing the gluten free market.

September 7, 2016 is the day The Bread Essentials is scheduled to open its doors and offer to everyone an enjoyable environment conducive to learning to make bread while having fun.

Come and join us, whether to find a missing tool or accessory, flours and other vital ingredients to make your bread at home or to participate in one of the workshop.

While we are working on developing a website that will allow online orders, purchase, and booking of your workshop session, please contact us by email at [email protected] and we will gladly help you.

We look forward to see you!

Excellent selection, including non-baked items like made in Canada wild blueberry juice, date sugar substitutes, frozen pasta pizza and vegan ice cream. And it’s all gluten-free! Personal favourites include chocolate chip cookie, muffin, and the fluffy buckwheat bread. Grateful to have this west end gluten-free bakery close to home!
My husband has food sensitivities including no wheat, no dairy, no preservatives and no/low sugar. This place is perfect and met his needs with great tasting baked goods. I tried the brownie and the zucchini muffins - VERY good. We will definitely be back!
They have great stuff in there with a good variety of other things to buy, besides bread. The gluten free pie crust I bought was delicious. I also picked up the spicy hot chocolate powder and it was really good too. Finally the ginger cookie was delish too. Everything there is made with love too. The staff is great.
I was so excited to hear of a bakery that caters specifically to gluten free baked goods, but more importantly outlines the ingredients. I ordered the banana bread which is delicious. I haven't been able to have these delights in some time so this is a real joy to be able to enjoy. Thank you Bread Essential.
This place is AMAZING!!! If you have anyone in your home that has a #glutenallergy, this amazing shop is an essential! Don’t keep this place a secret! Share to all your #celiac friends and family!
An absolute GF paradise! Huge selection of all kinds of sweet and savory goodies. The staff is lovely. Covid protocols in place so it feels extremely safe. Highly recommend!
Horrible! Service F#$&ING Horrible experience, and very wet/soggy bread. I live close so the fresh baked smell lured me in but just HORRIBLE.
Incredible service. The olive sourdough is so good! Can't wait to come back :
Loved their vibe, ambience, coffee, and bagels! Their mouthwatering baked goods are next. Definitely a must try spot!
