Story

The Board Game House is a unique venture in the core of downtown Nanaimo. We’re kind of a board game store, kind of a café, and just a really cool place to hang out. This new attraction will be a hit for all ages. Bring your friends, hang out, and play a board game or two while enjoying a delicious snack or beverage.

Game time is free between 12:00 - 2:00pm with the purchase of lunch. ($8 minimum order per person, valid on Tuesday through Friday only)

Very knowledgeable staff who can help you enjoy their wide selection of board/party games. A fun, welcoming atmosphere and reasonably priced play time 5$ per person/unlimited play. Nice selection of snacks and comfort foods grilled cheese, salads, popcorn, milkshakes, specialty coffees and other tasty treats. Would definitely recommend for fun night out with friends!
Absolutely love this place. So many awesome games, great milkshakes and food, and passionate knowledgeable staff. All at a great price, merely 5$ per person to sit and play games for as long as you like. The milkshakes and sandwiches dont break the bank either. My favourite rainy day activity whether you're with one other person, or five.
We loved it here! We came in the afternoon on Sunday for a quick couple games of photosynthesis. The staff was friendly and left us alone unless we had questions. Their selection of games was great. Coming for an afternoon for a coffee and a couple of games only cost us $14. I highly recommend coming by and playing a game.
There are numerous games. For $5.00 per person you can play any and all of the games all day. We tried a dozen or so games and examined quite a few more in a relaxing atmosphere. Some of the games are for sale and others could be ordered. The purchase prices of the games appeared to be competitive with even the discount stores. I had a Caesar wrap and a chocolate milk shake for lunch. The milk shake was awesome. Just like I had as a kid. I am way too full now. :- I highly recommend this as a relaxing place to try out games and a great place for lunch. Tyler was really helpful and very knowledgeable. He can help you find your perfect gaming experience.
A wall of many board games! Lots of classics to enjoy and great ones to explore. Offer food and a good time inside. Prices are a reasonable level. Service can be slow depending on the attendants working. All in all, A solid way to spend hours with friends or make new ones.
The coffee was great and there was a huge selection of board games. We had no idea how to play this game so they offered to explain the game in depth with us. Service was great and the prices are also very reasonable. We will definitely be back.
We went there for lunch and to try our and check out a few games. Tyler was a great help answering all our questions and giving us suggestions. Lunch was really good I had the "Loaded Dice" sandwich. Prices were very reasonable, good games, and a really good, clean space. I'm looking forward to going back soon.
Great atmosphere, amazing staff, and so many games. Coffee, snacks as well as superb sandwiches and salads so you can play all day. If you are unfamiliar with any of the games the knowledgable staff will happily teach you the basics to get you started. Fun for all ages.
The staff and owners are incredible! We had ordered some games and intended to drive in and pick the up on a day the store was closed, little to our knowledge. The owners graciously communicated with us through text and met us in the store so we could pick up our games! Above and beyond customer service.
I've been here a couple of times now. Nice clean friendly atmosphere, with a variety of food offerings and more games than you could shake a stick at. Last time I came for the Scrabble Scrimmage, but it being summer nobody else showed up. The owners very kindly played Scrabble with me, and then Upwords, and then another game my brain was too tired to process! Great people and a great feature for Nanaimo!
