Tempest Oyster Bar

Wow, I am NEVER disappointed when I come to tempest! A little heads up -- They only take reservations right now. To begin with, i love everything on this menu. My mom loved her old fashion. The caesar salad was amazing and my parents always get the shrimp cocktail. I really loved the Shrimp Po'boy with fries.

I had a dinner with colleagues. I arrived 10min early and the table was ready, which was a nice surprise. The staff was nice and helpful. I had the seaweed salad as a starter, which was delicious. I also like the fact that they have real bread, unlike Tornado. As a main dish, I ordered the NY strip, rare. To my great disappointment it overcooked medium and dry. I tried a slice but it wasn't enjoyable at all, so I asked the waitress to confirm I ordered rare. She apologized, confirmed that she asked the kitchen to cook it rare, and said that they will replace it right away. This already is sad because I hate thinking meat is wasted. Getting the second steak took a long time rare steak should be pretty fast to do. I got the second steak, my colleagues had nearly finished their plates, and the steak was... overcooked again! See picture, it's medium at best. The poor waitress apologized again and told me it wouldn't be charged, which is nice, but the office was paying anyway so it made no difference for me. I told her that I would still eat it, but in the end I could not eat more than a third. It was just not good. I left feeling very bad that 2 large pieces of steak got wasted like that, and that I watched my colleagues eating while waiting, just to have them wait while I eat. I just don't understand how a reputable restaurant like this can mess up the same thing twice like that. It's always disappointing to go out to have a nice time for a special occasion, and to leave with a bitter feeling because of these issues.

The food was amazing, from presentation to every bite. Sea bass was glazed and slightly sweet. Mussels were delicious. Requires reservations. Highly recommend.

The happy hour specials were fantastic and the oyster selection was truly amazing considering Midwest location. I’ll be back! Grab the Bosus if you can. The most interesting oyster I’ve ever had.

This place is an awesome, unique, sheek while non pretentious, amazing place to go for Oysters. It's one of our favorites for special occasion happy hours! Their house cocktails are delicious, and they even have a couple "mocktails" that are intentional and great to drink as well. Definitely check it out!

Another fine dining establishment owned by Henry Doane. Everything from the environment,food, and staff were excellent. I spent 2 hours there and it didn't even feel like it because I was enjoying myself so much

What an amazing dining experience. We originally stopped by just for oysters and a drink, but ended up staying for dinner and dessert. We were there for over two hours and enjoyed every minute of it. We were absolutely blown away by their oysters. They are so fresh and flavorful; truly the best you're going to find in the heart of the Midwest. Only $2/each during happy hour 4:00 - 7:00 pm. Drinks, service, dinner, and dessert were also amazing. The ambiance is unique and intimate. I can't say enough good things about our experience. I wouldn't change a thing. I cannot wait to go back.

Tempest was an amazing restaurant. The oysters were delicious and a great deal during their Happy Hour. This is a pricey location but you certainly get your money's worth of delicious seafood. Appetizers were well portioned and had a high variety. The Cesar Salad was an unexpected standout due to tasty dressing and a good balance between the ingredients. Both the swordfish and red snapper were perfectly cooked. Definitely would want to return for a special occasion or to sit by the bar. The atmosphere is a mix of classy and rugged pier so not overly formal.

Amazing oysters every time and the specials are always fun and delicious. Great place for date night or just quick drinks and apps.

Loved it! Drinks were divine, dinner was delicious, and music tied the whole experience together perfectly. Try to make it there for happy hour specials - the best shrimp cocktail for sure! - which lasts until 7 pm. Music by CED BA'ETCH' starts at 5:30 on 2nd and 4th Thursdays and provides the perfect backdrop for a very pleasant evening. Nothing raucous, nothing staid or pompous. Just really really nice.
