Always one of my favourite places to try and have a classic Hakka meal, I have been going to this place for many years. Hakka food is one of my favourite cuisines because it is a mix of two culture’s and has really good spices. This place I went to is Tangerine and we ordered Chili Chicken, The Spicy Deep Fried Chicken Wings and There New Item the Shredded Tangerine Chicken. I always love the chili chicken they have with the gravy. The Tangerine was a mix of sweet and spicy and the Spicy Deep Fried wings are really good chicken wings with a burst of spices. I also always love the Bombay Chicken.
I am a regular at the Tangerine in Richmond Hill and love their food and service. Tried out the Markham branch this week and was rather confused. First the ambience. It seems as if they are still waking up. The interior ned some more light, some freshening up. You get the feeling of entering a very old place. The service was good but impersonal. As if it does not matter to you if you are their client or not. Had two dishes, the Hot and sour soup and the Chilly Chicken. The soup was good but the chilly chicken could have been better. And the shrimp fried rice! Oily! Sad! I wonder what happens from restaurant to restaurant in the franchise. Come on Tangerine, Markham. Perk up. You have a reputation to maintain .
Found the place hasnt changed too much over the years. Food was pretty consistant. I enjoyed the chicken pakora with that SAUCE. So good. Chili chicken is a must and tried the general tso fish, a tad sweet for my liking. But I wouldnt know until I tried. All restaurants have been through the ringer. Was nice to converse with the staff.
WARNING: insect in food. I ordered take out yesterday and as my family and I were eating there was a dead insect in the noodles. This is the last time I will ever go to this restaurant. The manager, John, didn't seem surprised when I called to inform them about the issue and he just said "I can give you a credit for next time." I don't know a single person that would return to dine here after finding an insect. Looking at previous posts, this seems to be a reoccuring issue. Reported them to York Region Public Health.
I usually order from this place, and they have great food! However, from today's order I am very disappointed. We ordered 2 pineapple chickens, 1 fried rice and 1 noodle dish. The chicken and noodles were amazing. The fried rice is what ruined our experience. While I was eating the fried rice I found a bug. I'm really disgusted and overall disappointed. I won't be buying from this place anytime soon.
Service here is awful, the waitress! Asked for hot water with lemon said they gave to charge for the lemon! Chicken wings were not the best. The chicken pakora and chili chicken were not bad. The waitress needs to get a better attitude. But the guy was friendly.
Been going here for years.....but since been in Brampton and family moved away from that area.... don't get to go so it's been awhile. We were in the area so decided to go. Very disappointing for me. Granted with Covid prices have gone up.....but when the portions go down by SO MUCH....it tells me to not come back! We ordered 2 plates between the 2 if us.....normally we both eat and have leftovers, this time we finished everything and I was not satisfied. I was still hungry afterwards. Reason for 2 stars.....as I mentioned we've been coming here for awhile, and we ordered 1 new dish on the menu that we've had elsewhere and one staple we like to get and the taste was also 'dummed down' on both. If the taste was there I'd give it at least a 3. If in the area again, I may give them another chance.....but if it's the same, review will stand and most likely not go back.
There are lots of hakka places in Markham and this was certainly my favorite back in the day. Its amazing how the place evolved over the years. I had taken a picture of the receipt as proof but I can't seem to find it. My experience over the summer was horrible. I had ordered the wide noodles and specifically requested no 'bean spouts' because of allergies. The food was great, but when I paid the bill, I noticed a $1 charge for removal charge. Couple of things: 1Any additional charges should be flagged to customers. There is no mention of this on the menu but they have the audacity to state pricing subject to change. 2 when i asked for rationale the waitress simply stated they added more noodles or veggies which was not they case. 3 requested i speak to owner, they daid to give my number but there was no csll back. If you look at other reviews, apparently they charge for water ..not bottled water or anything tap water which is. ridiculous. I will certainly not be returning again.
I ordered 1x Crispy Ginger Beef, 1x Vegetable Thai Green Curry and 1x Manchurian Hakka Noodles. The portion sizes were good but the crispy ginger beef wasn't really crispy. The thai green curry was amazing but could have been a bit more spicier. It would have been nice to get complimentary white rice on the side but they don't do that anymore. We have been ordering from here for many years and it has typically been a good experience.
After years, I finally made my way back to Tangerine. I've always been a fan of their food especially their great selection of vegetarian dishes. We ordered: - Manchurian Veggie Balls one of their most popular dishes - Veggie Hakka Noodles - Veggie Fried Rice - Chilli Chicken - Orange Chicken I was a little disappointed to see the Noodle and Rice Dishes come in half-size containers, but once I poured them out into serving dishes, the portions were pretty good. Everything was delicious, except for the Orange Chicken, it just tasted sweet with a few orange slices placed on top. I also really liked they I could request all the items to be spicy or not spicy. Our total came out to around $55 Pro Tip, they offer a 10% off discount if you pay cash.
