I was a little nervous camping here after reading the negative reviews but am so glad I still gave it a chance. 10/10 we will be going here again. The owner is super friendly and her parrot is such a sweety. She even took some time out of her day to surprise my daughter for her birthday and show her here beautiful animals. The host is very friendly and helped us out immensely when we first arrived and our original site didn't work for our trailer. She is making so many new improvements to the campgrounds and adding in cute new cabins as well. The river was amazing for swimming as well. So quiet and peaceful I actually slept in and plenty of privacy and space between sites. Please if you are a family and want a safe friendly place to camp do yourself a favor and go check it out. You won't be disappointed
There a some things that might have been nice, but it is what they say it is. We got a camp site right on the rapids of the river, 15 feet from the rapids. People where quiet and we had 4 days, 3 nights of quiet. Yes, we could get cell phone from the site. We ate, read, did a puzzle, walked our dogs, and slept peacefully. Clean air, few mosquitoes, very few a restful vacation about an hour from home for $45 a night. Each site is a different price and some have power. They say " pack it in, pack it out" they mean everything.. water food, garbage everything. I'll have no problem convincing my wife to go back, make it a long weekend, who can really relax in only 2 nights right? Be prepared and you will relax. Our truck and trailer are long, the long box crew cab and 33 foot trailer make it challenging to back up which we managed, and we managed to get back out, it was a bit of a challenge but we will go back. Cash or etransfer, be prepared. The photo is the view from our door. Wait .... on second thought, don't everyone go, 'cause I want to go again, but if you do, relax!
We have been here a few times. Both were awesome. Lots of stuff to explore by the river. Close enough to town if u need something. Staff r great. Very helpful. We tried out one of the new sites. Wow. We will be back. Thanks.
A fantastic long weekend I almost don't want to write this review because I'd like to have this little gem all to myself! But those campers who love nature should give it a try. With the fires going on, we had to cancel the campground we had originally booked for the Labour Day long weekend. We were able to make a reservation for a double site with power at Tamihi Meadows, on rather short notice. We had read the reviews prior to booking and decided that no matter what place you look at going there are going to be good and bad reviews for all places, so why not give this place a chance. The campground is a privately owned campground, and is primarily dry camping, with the exception of some sites that have power. Our site was a double site with one 30amp outlet, located away from the river. The site was large and surrounded by trees, we had no neighbors on top of us. We had some trouble levelling one of our units and the host Dave was helpful and provided us with some wood to assist us. He came to our site later to make sure that everything was good. The grounds are beautiful, heavily forested, a river running beside it there are spots along the river, the ones with power are less private, the ones that are private do not have power, the owner has horses that come down and graze and you can go up to them and pat them. There is also a great beach area. On our 2nd day, the owner came down to make sure that everything was going well. I can tell you that she has put a lot of thought into the sites there, entrances to sites make it easy to back up or drive right in, some double sites allow for parking side by side, others you can park in an "L" shape and create even more privacy. The owner does pay attention to the complaints that they get and I think that she is slowly trying to incorporate things that make sense for that campground, but I like it just as it is. Since the campground is down the forestry road from Tamihi, you do hear ATVs in the distance, but they are not very loud and any ATVs that are on site were very considerate and drove slowly through the campground. We had a great time camping at Tamihi Meadows and will definitely be going back. I know that it won't be the place for everyone, if you want to party and blast music, it definitely is not the place to go. If you need cell service Rogers and Fido work there, Telus and Bell we had to walk to the picnic area to get a few bars or if you need wifi, again, not the place for you. If you want to sit back, listen to the sounds of nature and get away from it all, give it a try. Thank you Deborah for letting us share a little piece of your heart.
We loved being on the river and enjoyed camping there for two night. Host Dave is very helpful and nice. I would give it 5 stars if thay had washroom or if campsites were more private and had more space in between! UPD! We knew there was no washroom, and we knew that it was long week end and I think we were extremely lucky to get such awesome spot last minute! Thank you, Tamihi meadows :
Deb, and her staff really go above and beyond. It was very quiet which was perfect. Fun to hang in the river with everyone. People are extremely friendly and kind, shout out to Tara!! If you are a lover of animals awesome place to be. We're going back. Can't say enough it was really lovely!! Pics to follow..
This place could be good but: We were put in the wrong site after booking over a month in advance. The owner kept insisting it was the right spot, needless to say the next day she said we were right and we could move if we wanted. The day before she said it would cost more there if we moved. The spot she put us in had a 2ft deep by 8ft wide dip that our trailer had to sit in which made it impossible to level. We had set up and everything was in it's place so we stayed put and made the best of it. The gravel they are using is big rocks the size of oranges which makes it really hard for walking. Hard on our dogs paws as well. All the out houses were locked apparently because tenters had made complete messes in them. That was a little annoying. Luckily our trailer held a weeks worth of going to the bathroom for 2 people. Nothing is level, some sites are so so small and then others are so big you get charged as a double site. We had a 15amp power site and a few times we had our power blow. They are trying to make improvements but..... It is beautiful there. There is a nice beach area and some beautiful horses that wander freely. We were not completely turned off this place and will give it another chance in the future.
Its nice if you like very quiet.. definitely rustic small but cozy. Don't expect pristine furniture or anything!! Pond in front of cabin 2, Wood stove which is nice It's $10 for one batch of firewood from the gate keeper. I bought 2 for the one night. Definitely bring warm clothes for nighttime if it's March!! chilly sleeping if your fire goes out inside. Make sure to drive slow to get through potholes if you got a car to get to the cabin... Their big white pet dog comes up to the cabins sometimes so you can't be afraid of dogs. He Seemed friendly enough. If u like quiet and rustic and lighting fires for warmth this is for you!!!... I had to leave early unfortunately because my dog didn't get along with the one on the property :/ my dog is young and a rescue, so still working on socialization sadly. I should have just told the owner and they would have kept their dog away from mine so it's my fault. Other than that. It's a great quiet spot!
I do not appreciate you accusing me as I have no idea what you are talking about. I absolutely did not empty my camper toilet into your campsite and I paid way more than $25 a night. You have no clue who I am. The fact that you have to get extremely defensive to any negative review posted on here shows the kind of person you are and I’m tired of the harassment now. I didn’t enjoy myself or feel comfortable there, cameras throughout the site to spy on everyone I won’t be back.
Update 2021. They have made some great improvements, still no water but fill you tanks. Many more powered sites available.110 very much enjoyed it again. 2020 Was a good place not far from home. Horses come onto camp site on evening. Kids loved that. Not a commercial site alot more rustic. I would go there again. Some powered sites. No water hookup, or sewer but that was ok. We went prepared. Had fun. There is a pool in river to swim on hot days. Lots of hiking and biking trails. Or good for off roaders too. No real traffic as is at end of dead end road.
