I was impressed by the meat quality and the portion of the food. Even though it says for 2 people, I think it will feed 3 people comfortably. Would come back again.Food: 5/5
Came here tonight with my family for their soft opening. The place is very nice and clean. The food was good, and the service was not bad. Nothing stood out though, in my opinion. I went with my kids and they already had children's plates and utensils ready for us which was good. The menu wasn't the clearest though. For example, we got the Sumo Meat Hunter, but we had to ask to know what it contains. It would've been better if there's either piece amount or the type of meat listed. One thing that I liked was they gave us a small bowl of beef and a small bowl of tomatoes appy for free : Parking lot is a bit packed because it's a small parking lot, but there are some street parking in the area so finding parking should be no problem. The service was wonderful. The food was delicious. We can here thinking it was still Honolulu Cafe, so didn’t know what to except. The restaurant is well laid out. The staff is very attentive. The appetizers were fresh and had wonderful taste. Definitely will be back.Food: 4/5
Service was good. Well trained. Except they think customers could be fooled. Long story short. What we ordered was different, which what they put in writing on the menu. Im so sorry to write this honest feedback, but it won't be a next time for me and definitely will be bad recommendations to othersFood: 1/5

Big compliment to the ambience, outstanding service and good quality of meat here. Tea cocktails are especially impressive which you won’t see in any other places. Definitely recommendation for people who haven’t tried it out yet.Food: 5/5

I have been eyeing this place for awhile ever since Honolulu Cafe decided to close its doors. To others maybe it wasn’t the best local Hong Kong cafe but to my friends and I it’s the best in our hearts because grew up eating their affordable set menu and seeing papa and mama running it. Sumo Grill totally renovated the traditional Hong Kong style cafe to a trendy bbq grill restaurant, I can see a lot of work and thoughts were put into the layout and renovation. The seatings are roomy with a comfortable atmosphere, I like it. Now let’s put their food to the test, here were the food I ordered; 1. Thunder dream mango signature drinks. A bit of mixing feeling for this one, it had that citrus light mango taste, i personally would prefer more mango than citrus. 2. Summer passion fruit signature drinks. It’s okay, it is what its name said. 3. Assorted sushi set foie gras, beef, salmon, ika, chu toro, scallop. Pretty fresh and tasty, considering what it came with, the price was pretty good. 4. Ox tail soup. The taste was a little bit weak and too simply put together. And could slow cooked for a bit longer. 5. Sumo turf set: - miso soups. Very light miso taste, good if you prefer less salt. - potato salad. It got a bit of crumbled potato chips mixed into it, tasted okay. - 2 small dishes beef sashimi, tako mixed with wasabi they were okay, the beef sashimi could be sliced thinner. - small plate stewed beef with radish. the beef was overcooked and tasted powdery. - meat chicken deep fried chicken. Pretty juicy and not dry so that was good. - meats for grilling A5 wagyu, wagyu, beef tongue, beef slices, pork belly, sliced duck breast. Besides the wagyu beef, the rest of the meat were a bit chewy? - mixed vegetables tin foiled for grilling. - stone bowl rice with sliced beef, kimchi, egg, and diced pickled vegetable on the side. Tasted okay. - dessert was ice cream It’s certainly a big change over from Honolulu Cafe ran by mom and pop to a trendy bbq grill restaurant. I think I drove by a restaurant called Honolulu in DT Vancouver?? I would say the friendly and attentive staffs did make the experience and atmosphere more comfortable. As for the food, they were okay, however the meats were a bit tough and chewy besides the wagyu beef. And no I didn’t over grilled them roll eyes. The price may be a bit on the steeper side for some especially in this neighborhood. Since this is its soft opening and my first visit here, i am giving it a honest review but a neutral rating and update it when I give it another try. I know a lot of efforts are put into opening a business and many sleepless nights, therefore I hope with a little adjustment here and there to refine things a bit, this business will be rewarded with success! P.S. positive criticism or honest feedbacks are one of the key elements to the success and longevity of a business.
We loved the chirashi, we also ordered the wagyu oshi, beef tongue, pork belly, NY strip, short plate and squid. The place was clean and they have very attentive service. Would definitely go back again next time, this is a nice new place on Kingsway, I hope they will stay long, this area is not used to high end food Parking: Parking is shared with the London drugs compound
Absolutely LOVED everything! From the service right when we came in, to the drinks, food & complimentary ice cream in the end, everything was amazing. For the price point, the experience was above and beyond what we expected. Great place to dine with friends side sure. And great edition to Kingsway Food: 5/5
