Sushi Taku-En Japanese Restaurant

So glad a sushi joint opened close to home. The sushi here was delicious. The house roll tasted great but having the mayonnaise on it seem like an after thought and it made the roll look cheap. The awesome roll was awesome as well as the beef carpaccio. I enjoyed the nigiri and wish you didn’t run out of the hamachi! I think my wife and kids would like this place and I looking forward to coming again.

Little gem of a sushi restaurant in South Vancouver! I called ahead to order takeout for pickup. My order was complete when they said it would be, which is always good. I was pleasantly surprised with the prices - both my dishes were below $15 each and they gave me a 10% discount for picking up the order myself! Portions were very generous. My husband had the beef teriyaki don and was raving about how good it was! 5/5 I had the spicy salmon don - it was good but I felt that it was lacking a bit of flavour. Still, they were very generous with the amount of salmon sashimi in my dish, which I appreciated. 4/5 Overall, I would recommend this place! Great prompt friendly service. Simple and clean interior. Sushi is well priced and tasty. Only feedback for five stars would be the sushi rice is a bit too gummy and for the nigiri, oshi and cones could use about 30% less rice. Update: They fixed the gumminess of the rice..yay!

Nice, little place that opened up on Father’s Day. We got their sashimi and a few specialty rolls which were so good. The restaurant is very clean and neat. Service is fast. The interior is also so cute! It’s very cozy and spacious. The walls have a ton of interesting Japanese posters up. Love the cloth door that covers the entrance to the kitchen.

I had the chance to drop by this newly opened sushi place for lunch today. The place was very comfortable and I ordered the Eel Bento which was good overall. I particularly enjoyed their salad, especially the salmon oshi. The service was excellent and the price was very reasonable.Food: 5/5

Ordered this delicious lunch bento, very good deal for around $15. I was especially impressed by the salad which was big and had avocado since most bento salads are usually just small side salads. The oishi salmon was very well made as well!Food: 5/5

Tried Sushi Taku-En Japanese Restaurant, a Chinese run Japanese spot. The lunch bento 11:00am to 3:30pm seems reasonable. - Ebi sunomono $4.50 - standard. - Wild salmon sashimi $16.00 for 7 - slighty watery, soft texture. Meh. - Tuna toro sashimi $14.95 for 7 - came out slightly frozen, lacked a buttery texture. They only gave us 5 pieces. - Negi toro roll $3.95 - sad, don’t order. - California roll $4.75, dynamite roll $5.50 - Chopped scallop roll $5.50 - best of the rolls that we tried. - Salmon oshi $12.95 and saba oshi $12.95 - nicely seared. Saba still tasted like saba. - Salmon teri don $13.50 - salmon wasn't overcooked. Flavours were plain. - Futomaki $9.95 full size - not a tasty or traditional futomaki. - 2x Tamago $1.50 - run of the mill. - Salmon sashimi $14.50 for 8 - liked these better than the wild salmon. - Chicken udon $11.95 - broth was bland, udon had no bite. Another miss. - Spicy tuna oshi $12.95 - texture of the tuna was mushy. Can't see us returning to STE. 2.5 stars.

Was going to give 4 stars because the pressed sushi and nigiri were ok, but am bumping the review to 5 because the service was stellar and the uburi sushi was soooo good. come here for the uburi!! Get the salmon belly, scallop, and engawa. The fish melt in your mouth and there’s a slight char. We literally came back the day after because I was craving for the aburi sushi again. Take out is 10% off!

The deluxe assorted combo was great! We ordered the toro sashimi for $14.95 and the toro was still frozen. Usually toro sashimi would be melt in your mouth buttery and delicious, but this toro was frozen and tasted like normal tuna. Would not get again.Food: 4/5

Yummy sushi and close to home! Tried this on an Uber order and it definitely did not disappoint. Next time I will eat in. The Oshi was surprisingly good. The jalapeño was super spicy so I had to pick them off. The specialty roll was tasty too. I just cannot remember what it’s called. Looking forward to visiting again.
